Former owner of a P T -180 / Kubota BX-1500 .. A Craftsman Yard Tractor / John Deere 140 H-1 / Cub Cadet 108. And now ( Little Red ) a Power Trac 1425
It's been a while since had my PT-180 .. :laughing:

Look what followed me home today. A 425 only red with a 1 in front of it..

The engine runs smooth has a Kohler Command 25 . The machine only has 631 original hours.. The guy that sold it to me is the original owner and says he only used it to move some large rocks around his house and to plow snow.

He loaned it to his brother who somehow screwed up the hydraulic pump. So he had a company rebuild it seems to work great. I did hear some clicking when turning the wheels. I will be away all of this coming week but after that I plan to check everything out. At least I do have all of the original manuals and paperwork from Tazewell..

First thing on my list a good cleaning and then a repaint.. :thumbsup:

congrats, welcome back.

Looks like the PT-1425 is in great shape. The first thing on your list should be to slap a coat of mud on that thing. :D

The rear grill on that thing is going to make it hard to get your hand through to change the oil filter....

Yep will clean it up check it out paint it then go play in the mud.. I'm sure I'll have plenty of surprises coming my way. Ran great for the test drive but things I missed will surface in time. To be expected it is used. But that's the nature of we PT owners. Do your own repairs and maintenance with the help of this little group.. At least I did get the owners manual might help somewhat. ;)

Already notice the difference in size and power. I'm very particular so I will be replacing parts and components until I feel it is 100% transformed into a reliable running machine at least I have the basics now to work with.

Won't have any time to really look it over until after next weekend I will be away this week. But it sure looks nice having little Red sitting in my garage.

Think I've been missing my last one since I sold it.. My little kubota BX was handy for a yard tractor did a great job plowing snow and could do a lot of other things but It never gave me the feeling of being a heavy duty ground engaging machine.

After I do all of the mantience I will be following your lead and changing out the arms with new ones for the current setup. The 3 pin can go... Somewhere down the line a rop's will be in order.

I don't believe the lift arms have to go.

I believe Terry said the QA adapter will just fit the pins.

You might call him and verify.

Seems like the pin on plate for my 1445 was about $250, and then you have to weld up the adapter plate for all the other attachments.

Thanks PT .. Moss One of the nice things about it. The engine runs strong and so smooth. knock on wood. I don't think that's because of the Kohler , I think It's because It's Red.... ;) I'm away from home for the week. So I can't walk out to the garage and look it over. It's killing me... Lol Before I'm done with it I will have everything upgraded to 425 status ...Plan to eventually add another aux pto for running a mini hoe. Also upgraded wheel motors Rop's ...You know time and money. It does not get any hard use until I look it over closely and change out fluids and all new filters. Have been watching all the threads on preferred oils for use in the tub viscosity synthetic etc ...

I'll be curious as to your procedure for changing *all* the hyd. oil; not a small project as I understand it; and not possible without an external pumping mechanism either. (I believe SpringHollow has built himself something for that.)

Hi PT , I'm no expert by a long shot but that will be a way's down the road. After I make up my mind as to which oil to use. Then I'll research the threads on here and take it from there. The pump was just rebuilt so the oil in the tank is already clean. So no hurry for now... ����

I wrote mine up elsewhere, but basically, if you park your PT at an angle, almost all of it will drain out the drain plug. I used a dishwasher hose drain and the rubber adapter pushed over the drain hole, which helped me control the flow as I filled the waste oil containers. If you open the filter at this time, you can drain the suction hose. I used a small transfer pump to vacuum out the last of the oil, and any debris on the bottom.

Probably the biggest hassle was getting enough 1 gallon waste oil containers. Most oil recycling centers won't accept larger containers, and most choked at the thought of getting 20 gallons. They smelled the oil to make sure that I wasn't dumping something other than oil on them.

It is a long way off, unless something goes wrong.

I just drained what came out. I put in Mobile 1 15w50 synthetic on my 422. It gave me a lot more wheel motor torque and I was able to climb steeper grades while hot. I keep the 422 in a heated garage which rarely goes below 60, so cold starting is not a problem.

I plan to start with the engine , gas filters check hoses , make sure wheel lugs are tight etc.. Blow out and clean inside the tub. Peter later down the road I will look up yours and some other threads before I replace the hydraulic oil. For now still on the fence as to what I'll use. I'll have to read some of those discussions also.:cool: I did do a drain on the PT-180 but that seems like a life time ago..

Well dang ....

I have been away from home since I got my new / old power trac.. While I have been away I have been reading through as many threads as I can to re-familiarize myself with the do's and dont's and potential problems I may run into with my used machine.. In Looking through the list of owners I see very few owners of my beloved 1425 ..

I can only hope most of the parts and fixes will at least be shared somewhat with the 425 . I like my machine , but not going to kid myself into thinking it will be complety trouble free. It is a 96 model.. Is there anyone on the forum that still has a 1425 that is still lurking out there and reading these threads ? As with my 180 , I am once again an exception... Lol

Ok got a chance to go out and drive the ol 1425 around the yard this morning. Noticed going up a steep hill there is a faint knocking noise under load coming from the front. Treadle is pretty stiff. And creeps in forward position until I back it off in the other direction then it stays in place. I had planned on taking the console off this weekend and checking everything out.

Looks like the machine can use some cleaning up and greasing.. Pretty sure this is a cable operated hydra-back so hopefully just some adjustments.. Anyone chime in about the faint knocking under load. The brake is off.. I didn't really notice it when I went to drive it. Other than that, the old machine runs very strong.. Like I said it's going to take me a while to get back up to speed with a power trac...Thanks in advance..
