Alright been working on this old girl all day yesterday and this morning / today. Going through and checking everything. I notice a low screech when turning the wheel that I haven't heard before it continues on and off after you turn the wheel and then disappears.

Greased and lubed all the fittings and anything that moves on a hinge or that I can find in the tunnel and under the treadle area and including the middle joints. Took off the pulleys and cables for the brake readjusted and cleaned. Readjusted the treadle peddles. She runs smooth and strong. But I can tell.. It has not been maintained very well.

It was sitting outside under a wood shed that had a roof but the front was open to the elements. It now has a good home in my garage. The foot area has some light surface rust and in the wheel wells. Nothing terrible but I will take a wire brush decrease and repaint inside to stop it from eating away at the metal.

All in all the hydraulics seem very strong I picked up a full tree like it was nothing. When I tried that with the little Kubota it couldn't even budge it. It does a lot whining going up a steep hill but I think I remember my PT-180 doing the same thing. I do notice a slight vibration not bad and only when going up a steep hill and mashing down fairly hard on the treadle anyone else feel that on their machine ?

So for the screeching ( sounds like a bearing ) I'm wondering if maybe there is a bad bearing in one of the wheel motors. Or something on the steering column. I have not had the steering cover off yet. Is there a steering joint of some sort in there that can be greased does anyone know. Going out to clean out the tub and then will re-grease everything again after that.

Hi Barry,

Our machines are so different, i hesitate to offer an opinion, but when my PT did that, it turned out that one of the bolts that hold the wheel motor had backed out against the hub the the wheel bolts onto. Another motor bolt had loosened too so i hadn't been checking things out to well.

Thanks cqaigy2 noises seem to be all gone now. I will pull the wheels next weekend and check that everything is tight there.

I just finished cleaning out the tub with Dawn, a leaf blower, compressed air and hosed it out. The inside was filthy.

After that I used spray grease to hit every moving part again including the steering wheel. Drove it around for another 30 minutes and the squealing bearing noise and the faint knocking noise both seem to be gone.. At least for now and the machine runs and drives so much smoother.

A couple of pic's of the inside before and after .. The first two are of the treadle area the last four pic's are after I cleaned it out. I will pick another day to clean it again, along with the engine this time. Then I plan to paint it.

J.J. have a few of the pumps. Thinking the pump up front is an Eaton ? What are the two back ports for ?

Extra ports on a pump may be optional IN/out ports.

All good ... Do you recognize any of the pumps in this machine or are the pictures not good enough ..

Can't see any markings.

The name and model number might be on the pump flange.

Take a small wire brush to clean the flange and use a mirror or a camera phone and take a picture of the bottom, and other side.

I have a very small snake camera that I can feed into very tight places.

I had some screeching when turning on my PT425. I could have sworn it was the steering valve. Took everything apart, cleaned, inspected, noise still there. Called Power Trac for suggestions. Terry told me to re-lube the steering rams! I thought he was mistaken, as the noise was definitely coming from the steering column, but I did it anyway. Really soaked down the joints on both ends of the rams. The noise went away! So, live and learn and keep those joints lubed. ;)

Will do that J.J. ..

Moss was thinking the same thing about the screeching.. Sounded like it was coming from the steering column was thinking no way that's the steering rams. For the heck of it , I greased the rams good and after driving it around I lubed them again. The sound is now gone along with the faint knocking noise. I still can't figure out where that was coming from. Everything is much smoother now.

Now that the PT has had a good initial cleaning. I feel much better about using it . I'm thinking I've got a good solid tractor here, perfect for around my property. Even though the front lift arms are not bad, there is some wobble and play when driving around on pavement with the bar tires.

So I'm going to eventually replace the them and repaint everything else. I do wonder if anyone feels a slight vibration when mashing down the treadle going up a steep hill. I can feel it just little bit under my seat. Going to take cqaigy's advice and check all of the engine ,pump and wheel motor bolts and make sure they are tight.

Thanks to everyone for all of the input..
