I'm Looking To Build A Welding Cart

I watched the video. Excellent choice of music. I seriously admire your skill for detail. It's the touches like the recessed drawer pull and the airbrushed spare tire cover that set your work apart from the rest. Thanks for posting. That does give me something to think about.

I spent some time this afternoon trying to figure a way to put a 110V outlet on the cart somewhere. So far it's pretty cumbersome. The biggest problem is that my free 50 foot 10 gauge cord is only 3 wire. I can't have a neutral wire and a ground wire.

Thank you my friend. I really appreciate your kind words on my work. I just blame the detail ideas to all the fumes in the shop  Maybe if I had fresh air I wouldn't come up with an idea :)

As for your project. We all got you thinking so your on your way to building an awesome cart. That I'm sure of ;)

Well, Paul, my hat's off to you again! Since I am getting ready to build a little cart for my new Lincoln 125 wire welder, I was checking out the welding cart thread. Of course, there's a Specialty Repairs project on display, and not just another cart. Since my last name is Miller, your travelling welding trailer is especially impressive. Nice work. Do you ever sleep? I would guess you have a super understanding wife in order to accomplish what you do and still have a life.

Ha! Ha!. I don't sleep much and when I do I'm still working in my sleep  How does a guy with the name "Miller" own a Lincoln? :confused3:

Ah there all the same. There all good If you ask me. I buy blue because I get good service from my welding supplier and they know me by name so that means something. I don't take advantage of them and don't of me so it's a win, win relationship.

I appreciate your kind remakes on my work but I don't think much of it. It's just what I do and that's all that's to it. Your a smart man though because even though you don't know my wife you described her perfectly. I actually read you post to her and replied "He got it right" and all she did was smile and say "That was nice of him to say that".:) There's only two of us here at Specialty Repairs and she is the 75% of the business. Thanks again for your posts. I've enjoyed reading them.

Good start, Farmer. A lot of good jobs have started from chalk marks on the floor! Looking forward to more.

I'm like you Jay but the wife said the other day If I buy anymore tools there will be another chalk line on the floor and it will be the outline of me

Actually she said a long time ago that if I keep buying tools she was leaving. I thought for a moment and replied " Sure going to miss ya":laughing::laughing::laughing:

I suppose that's a better response than "That leaves more room for the tools."

I put my big 250 amp Miller stick welder on a cheap HF furniture dolly. Cost me about $8 and works perfect.

I spent some time this afternoon trying to figure a way to put a 110V outlet on the cart somewhere. So far it's pretty cumbersome. The biggest problem is that my free 50 foot 10 gauge cord is only 3 wire. I can't have a neutral wire and a ground wire.

I figured out how to wire in a 110v outlet... GFI circuits. I can run my 3 wire cord with 2 hots and a neutral to a box on the cart. In the box I can have a 50 amp 2 pole GFI for the welder and a 20 amp single pole for the 110v outlet.

It's not practical, but it's possible. If I have to buy new GFI stuff it will be more money than buying new cord, and I'll just scrap the idea. I can put up with running extension cords. But, I have a bucket of electrical stuff from auctions, etc. that I'll go through. If I have the 50 amp 2 pole circuit breaker that I think I have, it may be worth it. I already have a collection of small electrical boxes.

My old Montgomery Ward AC welder was on a cart, and I rolled it all over the garage and all over the driveway. It was a little smaller, but the cart was still pretty big. I can see why it would be nicer to bring the work to the welder rather than the welder to the work, but poor men have poor ways.

That's a fact! And too poor to pay attention!:thumbsup:
