I'm Looking To Build A Welding Cart

   / I'm Looking To Build A Welding Cart #21
OH man building a cart is such a fun project and really a personal one. You have to design it for the environment it will be used in while keeping in mind that while your building it IF you really think things out you can add a few options.

I built my cart from scratch two years ago and it have given me many hours of very pleasurable use and fits my needs perfectly.

The only limitation you will have will be with your imagination and the important thing with all these projects is to have fun.

Well I don't know if it's incredible but yes it's my cart :) Just wanted to post it to show the advantages to building things yourself and one of the biggest advantages is being able to build it the way YOU want and need it.OH it's fun as well

Glad you liked the cart and thanks for that ;)

Your cart is actually one of the reasons I decided to build something of my own.

Here's a snapshot of what I've thought up so far. I have to check on space. I'd like to fab a couple of reels like this one if I have room to fit it in the space where I'll store the cart.

Well it's sure nice to know I've inspired someone . Thanks for that as well.As for your design. It's VERY nice. Lots of storage space and very practical. The reals are a nice touch as well. Hope to see you post pics of it's progress when you get going. Your cart should last a lifetime!

I like that idea flusher. I've had one of those carts sitting around a long time with junk in it with four flats. I think it will be worth it to clean it up and fix it. Right now I have a 2 wheel dolly to move it around and my welding supplies are scattered around the shop.

I'd go for that idea, Farmer. I like the idea of using an already existing tool box and adapting the welder with it. Angle iron or tubing frame, lead and ground holders, rod holders, etc. Good plan.

Paul, I still say you need to adapt some sort of motor drive with remote control to your welder cart!:D:thumbsup:

Jay If I do that then the wife will want all the equipment done the same way and then I'll be out of work  Now you wouldn't want that to happen to me would you? ;)

When I did that cart I was actually going to put a pop up DVD played in it and during the video of the cart build I was going to pop in a how to weld DVD but I changed my mind after going over the idea with the wife  Ya she's got a way of shocking me back to reality

4 shorts, I think you need to add mudflaps on all your carts.
I believe I'm suffering from a serious shortage of mudflaps on my gear in the shop.

I'm going to have to mount a spare tire on the chicken tractor too. :D

Nice work!

I have to say, the spare tire takes the cake for cool. I don't have plans for a spare tire on my build, but I do plan to make it my own. I started fabrication last night, and I've already changed the plan a bit. Nothing real exciting yet... just the base frame.

I have to add that on this project I'm getting some quality time finally with my DC welder. I'm beginning to understand why so many have said that DC is MUCH better.

Na. It already has mud flaps in the rear. It's only a rear whee drive so I only put the flap on the back. Take a look again. They got "Miller" written on them  And you thought I left them out   Thank you my friend.
When you get your flaps installed post a few pics :D

You might think your out of the woods when it comes to a basic cart and I can see your off to a great start and yes DC is much nicer to use. I'm bett'en you'll add some nice touches to it as you go along.

When I went to make my welding trailer I started off with a rectangular chalk line on the floor and when I got it completed I had this made.

Here's the video. It might give you and idea or two:

When you build your cart, you need to make sure you have enough air space around the welder for the cooling vents to work.

My welder is about the same size as that Tombstone. Its first owner put it on a rolling cart that was intended for an acetylene welding set. This works fine and has plenty of room to wrap the cables around.

I carry rods, clamps etc in the tray on back so it is easier to tip back.

I took this photo to illustrate something else but it should give you an idea.

(The smaller welder's stand is a lightweight folding rack.)

I watched the video. Excellent choice of music. I seriously admire your skill for detail. It's the touches like the recessed drawer pull and the airbrushed spare tire cover that set your work apart from the rest. Thanks for posting. That does give me something to think about.

I spent some time this afternoon trying to figure a way to put a 110V outlet on the cart somewhere. So far it's pretty cumbersome. The biggest problem is that my free 50 foot 10 gauge cord is only 3 wire. I can't have a neutral wire and a ground wire.

Thanks for the heads up. I had thought of that, and I think that all of the places where there is a cooling vent on the welder are open to the world. I'll double check, though.

Well, Paul, my hat's off to you again! Since I am getting ready to build a little cart for my new Lincoln 125 wire welder, I was checking out the welding cart thread. Of course, there's a Specialty Repairs project on display, and not just another cart. Since my last name is Miller, your travelling welding trailer is especially impressive. Nice work. Do you ever sleep? I would guess you have a super understanding wife in order to accomplish what you do and still have a life.

On my welder I made a fraim from 2" angle iron & put 4 rollers on it, this was done cause it is so heavy.
Dont drah your welder to your work.
Get longer cables, You can buy it by the foot.
Get 50 foot with ends so when you need more length just add it in.
I have a spool gun for wire welding & is 25' long.
My cutting tortch has 100' so I can get to any thats close to the shop, I dont move any of the welding equipment.
