Impaled - Need Protection Need Brush Guard

You guys can rib me all you want. Guess who has the most fun driving their tractor. Heck. It's even fun walking along behind it, without the sulky.

Was fun yesterday taking my air walk in 50ish weather out there. No blase orange vest needed now with the hunters gone.

Don - when you're mowing down yaupon .... don't back up!
The biggest problem I've had is yaupon poking me from the back. I'll mow forward, bending it over while it goes under the tractor, and it will pop up behind before the mower hits it - or if I reverse while it's under me - it'll pop up in the places I really don't want it - like hitting my power steering lines - or water hose - or in one case it came forward, jambed into the clutch linkage, and engaged the clutch. I was stuck right there, buried in brush til I was able to cut it out (pocket knife), bend the linkage back in place, and replace a cotter pin (safety wire). ... it's been better since I put on a skid plate. It's just that I have a good idea what you're cutting through - same stuff as me near Winchester. As far as the grill goes - I like the idea of heavy expanded metal bolted on - and have it in my plan....along with many other projects.

O yeah.... brush guard. (actually had to scroll up) Got most of my stuff will post a photo in about 2 weeks if it works - otherwise 4 weeks.

Finished the brush guard project today. Used expandable metal, u-bolts, metal bars and bolts, and two cans of paint, total about $30. The Ace Hardware orange paint called "Allis Chambers" is a perfect match for the Grand L Kubotas. This is the same size bumper that fits all the Grand L's. Txdon, I printed off a copy of your photo, for my project folder. Looks great. Are you going out to tackle another road building project now that you have the guard? How about a skid plate for underneath. That tractor sure looks clean in the photo.

Sassafraspete, Oh yeah, I have many roads to clear in my back 50. I was wondering if Kubota has skid plates or if this will be another homemade tractor project? If it is another project has anybody attempted it yet?

The brush guard looks great. you do nice work. I am not sure about the skid plate & who makes them but I have seen such an item. I do believe that they were coustom made by the dealer.

From the front view, it looks as you have a grand L "30" series tractor so this may not even apply. However, I have been considering adding some type of brush guard to the front of my L3710/LA682 setup. After noticing how close the boom brace (and hydraulic lines that run across it) come to the front of the tractor when the boom is in the complete down position (front wheels off the ground), I am very "iffy" about running the brush guard all the way to the bottom. It has been a while so the proximity of the two components may not be as close as I remember. I'll try to remember to check it again next time I have the tractor out.

Nice job, Don. With using the u-bolts, if you take a limb thru the expanded metal or decide to use something else, it will be a snap to replace. If I were a betting man, I'd bet that will last you for many, many years. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
