I am considering building a space other than my barn to park the tractor and store implements. Looking for creative ideas on storage - for example, my post hole digger and boom pole are currently chained to tree branches so I can hook them up myself. Has anyone found a good method for mounting them for easy hookup. I don't think hanging them from the rafters would be good as it puts too much weight on them.

Thanks in advance.

This is what I use and it can be made as a dolly system if preferred and you have a concrete floor.:D Usually takes me less than 5 minutes for hookup.

Thanks - that's more or less what I was looking for. I take it those are 4x4s. I could put them at one end of the shed, set in concrete.

Yep, 4x4s, a couple Simpson hangers, no concrete required. Hookup, lift up, remove top 4x4, drive away and go to work. Simple, simple, simple. I set my posts 30" deep, in 6" holes that I drilled with the auger.:D Have had no problems so far.;) What I need to do is build something to hold all my bits.

Yes, I have a Land Pride PD35 post hole digger with the Land Pride hydraulic down pressure kit. Don't know how well it works yet, have not used it with the down pressure kit installed yet. I imagine with over 5000lbs of pressure it should drill anything that I need to put a hole in.

Like you, my PHD spends it's life hanging from a tree limb. If you do a search on here there was a great thread on PHD stands quite some time back. I stole one of the ideas and build a PHD stand for my S-I-L at the farm. It was basically a gallows with the PHD hanging on a chain hoist. The square base had wheels on it so you could move it around for ease of mounting. I also built a couple of steps on it so my S-I-L could climb up it if necessary - she's a smurf but she's a 5' tall tractor riding son of a gun. :)

Judge,
We have an infestation of fake new members here. I doubt your question has anything to do with rafters. If you hang anything from rafters for real, I'd be happy to help you with the carpentry aspect, and the site is also overpopulated with engineers. Enjoy, whoever you are. Jake

Just what is your problem Jake?

I'd like to edit my comment out of here but the edit feature seems to have gone missing. Apologies for my suspicious nature, Judge Roy.

Digicamnut,
I have three beers on tap here and I seem to gravitate to the whiskey anyway.

I too had to wonder at the intent of this reply. Infestation? Fake new members? Overpopulated with engineers?

one way to store your implement are is to get a set of forks and a bunch of pallets, and pallet racks and stack them that way they are all together and in one place and take up a lot less room

Thanks Jay, but let them have at it. I deserve it for that one.
At the risk of prolonging my agony and embarassment, haven't you guys ever seen the fake new members? They come out late at night.
The swipe at engineers was supposed to be funny, guess it wasn't. Again, apologies to Mr. Beanbag.

Jake, I'm way too old to do it now but at times in my life I have been where you were. :)

I don't know about the fake members coming out at night like vampires or UFO's but I do take exception to the remarks about engineers ... I is one an' bin one all my life. :)

Take 2 aspirin and we'll talk to you later. :)

Jake, I was pretty sure, the posting was in jest. Thanks for the reply (had to laugh at the one about the engineers).
