In need of some engineering help

I'm trying to avoid spending an exorbitant sum (at least to me) for a kit to make some modifications to a mower and need some help with what I'm reading on the exploded diagram of the items in question. Most are simply hardware items but I don't know the abbreviations being used and hope someone can help me.

Here's what I see I don't understand;

"HHCS 1/2 NC X 6 (then either CR5 or GR5)"

It looks like a 1/2" x 6" partially threaded bolt (possibly grade 5 if the abbreviation is GR5). What might the rest of it mean?

Also there is this;

"SLV 7/8 X 1 1/8 X 19/32 (NT or HT)"

On that one the picture is no help at all, I'm afraid.

Edited to change the 'NT' to '(NT or HT)' on the second item.

I thought I knew a little about bolts. After about 45 minutes to an hour of searching Google and digging through Machinery's Handbook I now know a lot more. I could find no reference to a "HHCS" bolt. At first I thought it would be a hex high carbon steel but even a grade 8 is just quenched and tempered medium carbon. Your guess is as good as mine. I figure it's just a grade 5 bolt. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif The second item you listed is a sleeve but I have no idea what the "NT" is.

I'm guessing with the info provided, but I'd say this is possibly a bearing with the dimensions being OD (outside diameter) ID (inside diameter) W (width) - but not necessarily in that order in this case.

The second one being a sleeve of some sort makes sense given where it is in the diagram. After I read the first three replies here with no one finding what 'NT' meant, I re-read the spec sheet I have (a copy of a fax, so you can imagine the quality /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif ) and determined that what I first read as 'NT' could well be 'HT' also.

A sleeve or a spacer? Either way, I vote for HT. Heat treated for hardness. Anyway you can post the diagram?

I'm going to say it's a sleeve based on the 'SLV' abbreviation and on the fact that something looking very similar with the same type of description (three dimensions) actually has 'SLEEVE' on it's label. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Frankly, I'm not sure what the difference between a sleeve and a spacer going over a bolt might be, anyhow, other than possibly it's primary function and where it's greatest strength might be. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Could the "NC" refer to a National Coarse threaded bolt???

That's what NC stands for, NF is National Fine. NC is also referred to as USS, NF is SAE.
