No doubt. You know how all these yuppies like their big "rims" on their vehicles. This guy obviously just wants to show off his "22s."

Wow, I just realized that I'm a yuppie, although that term has strayed far from its original definition. I have a BX24, which I never thought of as any sort of yuppie thing, but now as I reflect one why I got it and what I use it for, it really is to enable more "yuppiness." Examples:

*Originally purchased to use to put in a long, fancy, EP Henry walkway.

*I use the tractor to take the trash down my long, yuppie driveway.

*I used it to level an area for a "mega mansion" cedar swingset & playhouse that we got four our daughter, where as an old playground style metal set would have worked fine.

*I used it to create a pond with a waterfall that looks all pretty as you enter the part of our driveway where you can see the house.

*I used it to level an area for the yuppie gazebo that we than had delivered.

I think I could probably list 20-25 things that I've used this tractor for, and they would all indeed revolve around a yuppie theme. :confused2: I think a new term needs to be created for those who have the desire for yuppie things, but do all the work themselves, because most of the fun is in DOING the stuff, not having it. I'm not sure what that term would be, but that'd be me.

And further, I go to work and sit behind a desk all day, in a very yuppie type of way. And I am pretty certain that I am the only person in my office of 150 people who owns a tractor. In fact, I don't even have to go that far. If you look out in the parking lot of 150 vehicles, there is only one other person who even has a truck.

I'd spend the rest of the day now coming to terms with this revelation of today, but I can't be bothered, as I need to go buy some new cardigans that match my Kubota.

I'm in exactly the same boat, dude...The real yuppies at work make fun of me constantly, and some of them work for me.

I have acres and peace when I come home...They have neighbors and HOA's:D

while it would be nice to have a brane spanking new tractor. them sub compacts and compact tractors. look like oversized lawn mowers. with a loader and 3pt hitch. i litterly want to run away from them. more so when i see more of them with turf tires. vs good old tractor tires on them. i honestly would be afraid to use them. due to sinking them so far deep in mud. that i might loose them for good. that or trying to pull a tree. and the tree ends up pulling the tractor apart.

getting into the utilty tractor class ranges. 40hp and up. alright, i actually see good old metal frames. that are bigger than my arms. i can actually take one pass well 2 i should say to get it looking good. to remove snow and not multi passes on the driveway.

i can run over smaller size trees and brush and never realized i ran over the tree in the first place. until i look back. and saw woops! i didn't want that tree there in the first place.

awe it runs on diesel and not gas.

i honestly do see them sub compacts and compacts. as a waste of cash to me. just not enough tractor there. they have there market. but for me. give me something between construction equipment and full size field tractors. that doesn't depreciate so quickly.

then again i am still waiting for the flying / hovering tractor to appear.

Just wanted to tell all of you that I'm impressed with these posts. On so many other forums, this would have degraded into name calling, political rants, and attacks. These posts are thoughtful, well-analyzed, and highly educational.

Thanks for taking the time, and I appreciate the great advice.

Crazyal's steel wheeled tractor photo is funny- because we have lots of them, here in Berks County, PA. Except these Amish tractors are often top of the line John Deeres, pulling New Holland balers (on steel!)

Which brings me to a sidebar to this thread. Farmers. An Iowa corn farmer, harvesting several sections (640 acres) with his quarter million dollar combine, has little in common with a New England dairy farmer selling his milk to Ben and Jerry's. Or the California folks in the Imperial Valley raising romaine for the nation's supermarkets.

I have a friend in Lake Placid, NY, who turns the milk from his Jersey herd into artisan cheeses, which he sells at farmer's markets.

Like tractors, there are many different kinds of "farmers".

This reminds me of when I used to fly RC airplanes. Sometimes people would show up at the flying field and comment about how our airplanes looked and flew just like "real" airplanes. Well, the models have engines, rudders, ailerons, wings, they are in fact "real" airplanes, I mean....they do fly, right? Just because they don't carry people doesn't make them any less real, just different.

Same with tractors. If it looks like a tractor and gets used like a tractor, it is a tractor.

I like your analogy. If a guy can plow a field with a 1 bottom plow or a 5 bottom plow.....they're both tractors IMHO. I have no real need for a BX, but then again that is just me. They are just small tractors is all as is my L5030 compared to a 200 hp tractor.

I dunno, those look like 32" fronts & 42" rears  ... and very low profile "tires" at that :D
