I'm going to a dealer tomorrow to look at something advertised on Tractor House. I'm going to ask that question as I've wondered why also.

To busy people, e-mail is a productivity parasite! I've had managers and executives tell me that if I had something important to communicate, pick up the phone or walk over to their office.

so you said they never called you back. you know where the dealer is and have a web site with contact information.
how many days ago did you call them?

or were you waiting for a call from your first offer and never called them

I also appreciate the honest feedback even if it makes me feel bad for my offer.

I'm with you, Dodge Man. We're all here to learn, and in my life learning sometimes stings a little.

To add to the conversation, I like to use Craigslist a lot... both as a buyer and as a seller. Sometimes people are genuinely asking a lot more that an item is really worth. I've found in these instances there's no use offering a reasonable price. They think they know the value, and they'll not be convinced otherwise. These are the listings that I see over and over for months on end.

On another note, one of may favorite parts of dealing through want ads is the opportunity to meet and get to know people who have similar interests. I enjoy the association even if the deal ends up falling through. I will sometimes make a "goodbye" offer that's significantly lower than the asking price, and I'll make it clear that I don't expect them to accept it. Sometimes they surprise me and accept the offer, but usually we part as friends regardless.

The opposite experience is a guy who came to buy a car from me. We were $50 apart on the price after I'd already come down lower than I wanted to. I told him no deal, but he kept hounding me for that extra $50. I told him "no" so many times that I was beginning to wonder if I could call the cops on him for trespassing.

I think I made the offer Monday through Tractor House. I put my phone number in the offer also. I was waiting for them to contact me but that’s not going to happen.

I just received an offer of $3000 on the piece of property I have listed for $14500. Does that even deserve a response? The new septic alone cost over half of my listing price.

I did reply though, I asked why he's wasting my time. I would never make it as a salesman.

if the dealer is local (within a hour) why wouldnt you just call the guy to get more information?
good chance he never got your message. Lots of online stuff just dosent get to where its supposed to go.

if you just called them all of this speculation wouldnt have ever b
been needed. And... I still dont see where you have yet to call.

I wouldn't waste time replying. Sounds like some flipper trying to make a fast buck.
I buy and sell some on Ebay. If I get an offer of half the buy-it-now price I don't respond.
I'm sure if I offered $13K for your property at least we're close.

Gosh, some people have a very thin skin. Ever watch that liquidation show? Guy buys stuff for virtually nothing. That's business. If someone talked really bad about your product, trying to lower the price, that's an insult, but a low dollar offer isn't in my opinion. I mean, if I do that, I try and at least couch it in a nice way. Currently trying to sell a brand new Welder, Generator/Compressor in one package for $5999.00 Got an offer for $3000.00 yesterday. Not offended at all.
