Insurance for your truck

Amen! I have never found out a rhyme or reason for insurance. I have had Allstate for 20+ years, the agent is a neighbor. Even so, every 3 years or so I get quotes from other companies-usually they are lower, so I go and see Allstate, and so far they always match them best price.

Never tried that... sounds like a good strategy.

I have minimized premium hikes by raising deductibles or switching to a collector line for vehicles 25 years or older... which most of mine are.

I have been told ,that it cost more to fully insure an older vehicle ,than it is a new vehicle. Also, insurance rates depend on a lot of different things. Ie, how much liability coverage you have, speeding tickets, what your deductible is, region you live, etc,.

I've also been told that your credit rating factors into your insurance rates. Supposedly it gauges your ability to pay the premium.

Some of the rates you guys are getting is amazing!

I have a claim free, accident and ticket free driving record and my 3/4 1985 Chevrolet is $900 for insurance and $185 for tags... plus smog inspection...

6m or year? on the insurance.

I just switched insurance. I waited to long to call around and get quotes. I had state farm for home and autos. Last I called around they were the best price. But wanted to add a business general liability policy for the side jobs I do with the tractor. State farm just changed something in there policies where they wont insure new business's. Only businesses that have been previously insured for at least two years.

I notified the agent that If I had to shop around for business ins, then I would also be shopping for home and auto too. So I called 4 different independent agents. I was shopping for 4 policies.

Home
Personal Auto
Commercial Truck
Business Gen. Liability

Prices were all over. No single company was cheapest on all comparing apples to apples. If I wanted to have insurance through 4 different companies, I could have saved maybe $100 a year. But I wanted everything though one insurance company. Which happened to be erie.

My home isnt high value. 1200sf ranch with 8.3 acres built in 1987. Insured for $166k/$1000 deductible But what I liked about erie is they cover 20% for dwelling extensions (outbuildings) instead of the normal 10%.

$662/yr

Personal autos are a 01 saturn with liability only, 08 nissan sentra full coverage, and a 05 ram 1500 full coverage. $250k/500K on them w/$500 ded. Those all cost me

$1225/yr

Commercial auto on my 05 ram 3500 DRW and 25' GN trailer 250k/500k $500 ded

$634/yr

2M/4M gen liability to cover field mowing and snow plowing $500 ded

$632/yr

So total is $3153/yr-----$262.75/mo for alot of insurance. Alot of people dont have 250/500 on their autos. I never did, I always had 25/50. but getting 10x's more coverage didnt make the premium jump as much as I though it would. Not sure how good it is, but was the best I could do around here.

Thats horrible.

What are your first two vehicles

LD1, Why do you have full boat coverage on a 05 vehicle?

I have always had USAA. They're not as good as they used to be (what is?) but they're better than most insurance companies I've shopped. Well, actually they shopped me trying to get me to switch and when I tell them I have USAA they just say "Oh. Well, thanks anyways!" The only thing they won't insure is boats and atv/utv's and land (other than your home).

LD1, Why do you have full boat coverage on a 05 vehicle?

Mainly because liability only wouldnt save me much at all. And..

Because it is still pretty high value wise. And expensive to fix in the event of an accident. MY 05 is the cummins 3500 4x4 drw with only 88k miles. Probably worth 18-20k. The wifes is a 4x4 factory Daytona package ram with only 70k miles. worth maybe 15k?

Actually the 08 sentra would be the one I consider going liability only on, since it is worth maybe 1/2 what the ram is. But when I inquired about that, it was only gonna save 4 or 5 bucks a month. So I decided just to keep full coverage.

Actually comparing my 01 saturn work car to my wifes 08 sentra,

Saturn liability only......$255/yr......$21.25/month
Sentra full coverage.......$392/yr.....$32.66/month

IIRC, dropping the sentra to liab. only was somewhere around $26 or $27 per month
