Mike,

In your post did you mean "trust data over people" right?

I had great luck with dino also, in the past. There is 100% no way I am putting in a dino oil in a $16K+ tractor justing $1.50 at Walmart. No way. If I want a cheap oil for a cheap auto, maybe; but my wife and kid are worth more.

I also had great luck without a computer and calculator also! Even worked great use the old "dial up ISP" too.

I agree Redline is a little better but the price vs what you can do, stops me.

BEER, people really drink beer? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif I need to get you on some Crown Royal or my fav “the goose” (Grey Goose). The wife thought I was nuts with it until she tried it. Now I need to keep here away from it. She cooks with the stuff like water.

Use your spider sence.

yup, very true.

Just using what I posted above, the group 4/5 oil is holding up over 3X longer and results are almost the same as the 4K drain interval one.

Blowby, times for rings
//
All internal combustion engines have some blowby. There are gaps inbetween the ring ends remember ?
Also I do no oil testing, so maybe the cost is not that different.
My cost is about $15 per change as well. Also I only drive about 8K per year, so 2 oil changes.....

I know that some blow by is acceptable (per tolerances) but if it effects your oil that much (high OXD, soot, NOX etc) to change it, you have bigger problems then oil.

So your cost is $30 per year at 2 changes. Pretty good. I just pay $45 for 1-change per year and drive around 17 to 20K per year.

I am not saying that synthetic oil is not better, just that It is not necessarially the best choice for everyone. The age/mileage of my vehicles says something. 90 Subaru 198k, 93 Lincoln town car 176k, 75 ford f150 pickup 202k, 68 IH tractor 2,550 hrs. And no oil related problems on any of them and no rebuilds. Although the old ford pickup probably could use one /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Works for me /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Mike

I've got some homework to do.

One thing I do know is that in cold weather, with synthetics, the oil pressure is there "right now" on cold starts. That is good.

Off the work

Regards

I agree with you.

My father wanted to use synthetic in his old 1986 truck. The oil was worth more then the truck so he kept using dino till he sold it.
