SIR,
there is nothing like hands on.many
years ago, i was trying to learn how to
stick weld. an experienced welder was
teaching me. i would run a bead, and he
would tell me what i was doing wrong, and
i would try again. finally he said, i am going
to do something diffferent. i got ready to go
with a fresh rod, and he put his hand on top of
mine, and said, you just go along for the ride,
and let me do the welding. i learned more from
doing this, and found out i was not feeding the
rod into the weld fast enough.

That's a great way to learn welding fast.
I'm a complete novice to stick welding. Done a lot of torch welding and brazing but little arc welding. So I took a chance and bought the two arc welding videos from Wall Mountain.

They're quite good. About 45 minutes each. $24.95 each. Delivery in about 4 days via USPS priority mail.
The photography of the weld puddle is excellent and the explanation of the proper welding techniques by the expert welder on the video is great. The video shows what you should see through your helmet filter glass when pulling the molten puddle around with the welding rod. To me this is an immense help in developing proper technique.
