Pretty good is good enough. Just ask Bill Gates. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif )</font>

I always had the impression Bill thought it was "good enough for government work." /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Re: Is \"Pretty Good\" \"Good Enough\"?

Henro....... when you get around to drilling the ROPS, will it be good enough, just right, or perfect????? Who will be the judge???? Will you allow us to be the judge and jury??? Can we vote on it??? To what degree of perfection do you want us to hold you to?? To what degree of perfection are you going to hold yourself to??? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: Is \"Pretty Good\" \"Good Enough\"?

Whenever I (we) work around the house I always seem to say "What do you think, that's pretty good isn't it"? I usually get the response, "Yeah, that's good enough".
So, I think the answer to this is question is.... YES. Pretty good IS good enough! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: Is \"Pretty Good\" \"Good Enough\"?

Junkman,

I think perfection is like beauty, it is all in the eyes of the beholder.

Thats pretty /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

What more can one say?

Good enough is good enough for me... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

For some reason I prefer satisfaction over perfection! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Also prefer a full stomach over being hungry! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

As far as ROPS drilling goes, when I do it, I am certain it will not be perfect, if I am lucky it will be just right, but it will certainly be good enough!

By the way, I'm like you. If I hired someone to do something, he better do it at least as well as I would, or he would hit the bricks...

...which would mean that he'd probably fall into the "Pretty good" catagory which in your book wouldn't be "Good enough". So, better to do it yourself (like me) so you don't have to utter those aweful words "Pretty good". /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Did I say this pretty good? Do you think it's good enough ?! I think I stated it pretty good so it's GOOD ENOUGH ! (LOL) /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If I hire someone to do something he better be able to do it better than I can, because if he can only do as well as I can do it, then I don't need him to do it, I will do it myself. I hire people to do that which I am not capable of doing and for their expertise.
When I had a repair shop, I told the body men that I know the difference between good and bad work, and that I could do bad work, but I was paying them to do good work. If I wanted bad work, then I would do it myself. I always asked for good work from them and they always gave me exceptional work in return. I never "demanded" perfection, but they always produced work that was beyond what the average shop was turning out.

Re: Is \"Pretty Good\" \"Good Enough\"?

'perfect'......'good-enough'.....'doing-it-RIGHT'......I don't expect rough carpentry to be within thousanths....but I do expect an effort be made to get it as close to 'right' as possible without extreme effort. I liked that that guy wasn't there after lunch. Wristwaches, crankshaft journals and taper bearings need to be close to 'perfect'..but even that...'perfect' is just theory. I hate the attitude of 'good-enough'. I'll take picky perfectionist every time. It's an attitude of 'doing-it-right'. It's too bad we have to check on everybody who does a job for us.

Re: Is \"Pretty Good\" \"Good Enough\"?

Incidentally, there was a book out about the early 60's called "Atlas Shrugged" by Ian Rand. It spoke to this very subject. Although a fiction, there was much truth to it then, and is still true today.

Exactly! When it's done "right" it's good enough. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

GerardC ...

I know that I am going to be showing my ignorance of modern day iron /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif, but what is that fancy red car under your name. At my age, these modern day cars all look the same. I am sure that Henry Ford used to say that also, when he got to be my age!! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
