Is TBN too "family friendly" for your tastes?

Being a moderator, I suppose I'm biased... But I really feel that the extra "padding on the gloves" as Soundguy put it keeps tbn a great discussion forum (as JDbower put it - a high signal to noise ratio).

Something to keep in mind, our "moderation rate" is far below 1% of all posts, so really the community self moderates.:D

Lastly - as a newer father, I enjoy that I can surf tbn with my 2 year old in my lap. (Her favorite part is the photo gallery).

I posted my thoughs earlier, then had second thoughts about my first thoughts.

OK. I've had a few minutes to think about it. Hoping I don't offend anyone, as that's not my intent, here we go.

This site doesn't belong to us. The owners have all the right in the world to say what goes and what stays. They allow moderators to read and judge what fits and what doesn't. By the fact that the moderators have been around for a while, the owners must be reasonably satisfied with the results. Any of us who want to "play" here have the right and/or responsibility to play by the rules, or we can take our game elsewhere. We choose which one.

In the end, MOST of what goes on here is pleasant, friendly, and informative. What I disagree with, I have control over what I decide to read or ignore. On the few occasions I crossed the line in the sand, and was told by moderators that I had done such, I never disagreed with that decision.

As is evidenced by several other sites I know of, failing to employ rules such as this site uses will result in total anarchy.

All said and done, we agreed to comply with the rules. When we decide that isn't in the cards, it's time to go elswhere.

I'm done with the soapbox, NEXT!

Well versed and eloquently delivered. I had a big speel to deliver when I first posted, but I deleted it. I wasn't as efficient as you were with your post, I was kind of p.o'd at things, but a little time away from the 'puter and some thinking and I was going to post again...until I read yours...then I thought -

Ditto!

As one of the many tractor loving people who check in on TBN daily, I don't have a lot of time to spend, so I miss many threads, however, very few threads or posts have rubbed me the wrong way.
Most of the time I agree completely with the restraint put on us. The times I don't agree, I am free to look elsewhere for awhile.
Having this tractor kinship with you folks would make it hard to just go away. When I no longer feel a kinship.................

I don't have much to add to this discussion, but all the same, we are in "mixed company" and the signal to noise ratio on this site remains very high. This is one of the reasons I keep coming back here, I don't post a bunch but I read it every day. There are plenty of places on the net to get into trouble, no need for it to be here.

There are plenty of other places to lower ones standards at.

I think TBN is fine, and the moderators try real hard to keep that balance.

That is kinda rough... He has been here since before this was TBN, back when it was the Kubota Only site. And has contributed a lot over the last 10 years.

While I agree it is a family site, and it goes by the owners rules, it is still a bummer when a 10 year 5000+ post veteran gets a reply like this.

I had read this site for quite a while before I joined. I really enjoy it. I have learned an awful lot. The site has saved me money and time. On top of that, it makes me belly laugh at times. I am thankful that it is family friendly. To sum up, I think it is helpful, entertaining, and mostly wholesome. How do you beat that?
