The signal to noise ratio is one of the best parts. I've been in (And am in ) plenty of websites that are virtually 'content free'.. IE.. if I have a real question..I have to go here or to YT to get a good answer.. part of that has to do with membership numbers.. and part of that is the membership itself.

Being a moderator, I suppose I'm biased... But I really feel that the extra "padding on the gloves" as Soundguy put it keeps tbn a great discussion forum (as JDbower put it - a high signal to noise ratio).

Something to keep in mind, our "moderation rate" is far below 1% of all posts, so really the community self moderates.:D

Lastly - as a newer father, I enjoy that I can surf tbn with my 2 year old in my lap. (Her favorite part is the photo gallery).

That is kinda rough... He has been here since before this was TBN, back when it was the Kubota Only site. And has contributed a lot over the last 10 years.

While I agree it is a family site, and it goes by the owners rules, it is still a bummer when a 10 year 5000+ post veteran gets a reply like this.

I didn't think it was rough. The person is still able to post? And contribute freely. Like I said, there are plenty of other places to go, to lower ones standards at. I wasn't just aiming at one person, or I would have quoted the string.

But you RobertN have brought another point to the discussion.

So being a long time member affords you what?

You expect something special?

Last I checked, I only saw one person banned from this site, that I know of in the past few weeks.

...I kinda think of it like a 'church parking lot'.. IE.. you can discuss most things there.. and even a few items that are on the edge.. but there are deffinately a few topics that just don't need to be brought up.. you can save those for the 'bar' parking lot. (wink)

Soundguy

Excellent analogy! :)

I don't think anyone cares to be told to take their ball and go home. And I don't think the comments regarding lowering your standards are too kind, either. It sounds kind of elitest (sp?).

Ok...

I'll say POOR choice of wording on my part then. I'll drop off.

Thank you for your comments, RobertN and MossRoad

I'm not so sure there is a good way to tell everyone they can either play by the rules or go someplace else and try to find a new set of rules they agree with. This is one of those personal situations that a fellow just can't take too personally.

I hate to see anyone walk away unhappy. That's not what this place is all about. But, change is inevitable. Be it for better or worse, things change, faces come and go. We miss our friends that have gone on. We anticipate the new aquaintences we hope to make. Just like life itself.

I disagree TOTALLY. No one told him he had to take his ball and go home. HE is the one who said HE was leaving and he said so in the first post. Some of us just agreed with him. But make no mistake, he is the one who doesn't like the climate here and the majority of the posts so far have simply said if you don't like the climate, find a climate you like. There is NOTHING elitist about that and there is nothing elitist about pointing out that some forms of conversation are lower than others. That's just a fact of life and no matter how crude one wants to be, there is always something cruder and lower than you are comfortable with. He's not being banned, shunned or boycotted. He said he's leaving of his own free will because of how you moderators are running things. (I happen to be very pleased at how you mods are running things, by the way.)

But there's something else. He also said he no longer owns a tractor. I know that owning or being interested in tractors is not a requisite for actively enjoying this fine site....but it sure helps.

Well Mark (Rat) I just hate to see you move on. You have always had a good understanding of equipment and I have learned a lot from your input. I also hate to see a member that was around before this was called TBN leave. There are not that many of us left.

I have always felt that this was Muhammad party and I was not charged admission to attend. If I was not enjoying the party I would find another one to go to.

I think the moderators do a good job of balancing content and I am sure that is not easy all the time. They are just people and each has their own opinion of what is appropriate. I’ll admit to not always seeing what was so inappropriate that made a thread be closed. I see worst on prime time family friendly TV and it seems to be a standard excepted by most. But again it is not my party I am just a guest.

I do not expect anything special from being a long time member. It's one thing to be here, but another to give valuable, relevant posts.

I have seen members here, who were brand spanking new, who had valuable insights.

I would offer though, that IMHO, a balance of being around a long time, and having numerous posts with valuable relevant content, offers some amount of value to the site.

I also think, again, IMHO, that this would be a different situation face to face; how thoughts and ideas are relayed on a keyboard vs in person is very different.
