Is the 62D deck a floating or ground contact deck?

I always drive far enough ahead to drag the deck a few inches with the lift arms. Once the deck seems to be hooked on both sides, I set the parking brake, then get off to release the pins.

DITTO!
Using this method,I've never had an alignment problem.:)

I'm late to this thread but it was interesting reading many of the comments.

I took delivery of a 2720 fall of 2011. Mowed once before the grass went dormant but that was long enough to see some of the problems identified here.

I traded in a 2305 with a 54c mmm. I got tired of dragging the deck out from underneath the tractor, got tired of the deck slowly lowering as I mowed, and got tired of guessing where the mower height was going to be, etc. The 54c was a floating deck and could be operated at its full height in some pretty tall grass. But at lower heights it would leave uneven cuts as the deck swung a bit and tried to level itself out on slopes.

With the 2720 I was looking forward to using the stow and go on the larger deck. I was pretty disappointed when I saw that the deck no longer came with the attachments even though the manual clearly showed them.

It does mow much more even, it stays at the proper height (but it won't mow as high as the 2305), and it doesn't drift down.

I usually remove the deck over a grassy area with the deck on the ground. When I tried to re-attach the deck over a concrete floor the deck would slide as I drove up over it. It stays put for the most part on the grass. Except I can't leave it there very long or it will kill the grass.

Another thread mentioned this company for casters to stand up the mower deck in order to move it around and take up less space. Some on TBN have built there own. In either case it doesn't look easy getting the deck up on those wheels no matter which way you go.

Some good suggestions on using the hose attachment. On my old 54c I would stand it up and lean it against the FEL and take the power washer to it. I think the 62d is quite a bit heavier but maybe once I get it on some wheels cleaning it will be easier.

Won't the FEL lift the 62d deck?
Lift it with a chain and let the FEL do all the work for you.

I have the 62D on a 2320, so I may not be 100% on this, but mine will mow at a height of 6 inches when in the "lock" position. I know the deck level adjustments are different on the 2720, but I thought it would go at least as high.

Are you in 4 wheel drive when re-attaching the deck? There are tabs on the deck for the front tires to "climb" onto the deck. Mine will push the deck if it's in 2wd, but in 4wd it climbs right over, even on slick concrete.

Some people here have said they manually lift the deck up upright. It weighs about 275 lbs so that's possible. I throw a chain around the front wheel shafts and lift it with the loader. Very quick and easy.

Making wheel stands is really easy. 1/2" steel plipe fits close enough into the rear wheel fittings. Use 10" diameter wheels. 8" will work but the locking levers tend to scrape the ground when you move it. Harbor Freight regularly has 10" pneumatic tires (for 5/8" axles) on sale for $5 to $6. The 5/8" axle shaft conveniently is a good fit inside the 1/2" pipe (don't you love our sizing system).

Thanks for the suggestions on the wheels.

The 2720 doesn't have stops for the mid mount mower lift arms like the 2305. There must be some other way to check and adjust the mower height though.

Kenny,

Do you happen to have a photo of your vertical storage setup on the 62D? How long of pipe and axles did you use? I assume you bought four wheels.

Thanks.

I'll try to get a photo this weekend. My axles are about 18" long, but I think a little shorter would be better. Yes, four wheels.

If I get it right, here are some pictures of my wheels. The first picture should be the wheels and axles. Right now, the axles are 1/2" steel pipe, 18" long. I just bought a 3 foot section and cut it in half. In reality, I think 12" would be fine because of the deep hubs on these wheels. I used 5/8" threaded rod (inserted into the pipe and spot welded) and nuts to hold the wheels on but you could use plain rod and cross drill it for a pin. The wheels are 10 inch diameter from Harbor Freight. Technically, 8 inch wheels would work but I think they would be a little tight on ground clearance. The second picture shows the deck lifted with a chain and the loader. The third picture shows the deck up on the wheels.

I made mine as well, but they dont look nearly as nice because im not as handy LOL-

I used 18" threaded bolts (the longest I could find at TSC) that were smaller than the holes in the mower brackets. Im thinking the holes were 7/8" ID, my bolt was 1/2" - then I had used brass inserts that were 3/4" ID x 7/8" OD to fill the gap.. I used PVC pipe as spacers so the offside wheels stayed in position.

I did make the mistake of using 8" wheels and you have to make sure the adjustments levers are folded or they will hit the ground..
