That for sure is some fabricated non certified ROPS. And for sure not refurbished in Japan.
Is it attached same as the ROPS on this one that comes with an integral 2-point tiller instead of 3-point arms? I think this firm is the importer/distributor for that region.
Don't doubt it. There is one legitimate importer-refurbisher - Fredricks - who contracted with the original American firm that provided certified ROPS for the American Yanmars (and for a lot of other heavy equipment). These legitimate, meet-specs ROPS are now sold through several dealers. That YM2000 in that dealer's ugly photo is a near twin to the US market YM240 and they both take the same ROPS. Add the ROPS (comes with seatbelt) and an external over-run clutch and you have essentially the same tractor that Yanmar sold here.Certified ROPS on a gray market tractor? I doubt it.....
My first CUT had no ROPS at all, so I would consider that an upgrade. Just gotta keep the safety police away.

8N is a lot heavier and wider, far more stable. These smaller Yanmars feel high and narrow, spooky. It wasn't until a new owner of a gray market Yanmar died under it his first week and the widow sued Yanmar-USA, that Yanmar took notice and sued the US gray market importers (except Fredricks) pretty much out of business.Used an 8N for nearly 50 years......no ROPS.
I don't need no stinkin ROPS! (though it is a good thing to have)

Gray Market Tractors. How to tell the differences... | Team Tractor & Equipment | Phoenix Arizona
There are about 3 certified ROPS makers for the US market for tractors older than when the law took place.
1- Custom Products, LLC
2- Iron Bull MFG
3- Hercules MFG
Yes, an 8N can be upgraded to a certified ROPS. There is a ROPS rebate program non-profit that has a listing of machines for retro-fit and being certified. In many instances, the rebate covers up to 70% off the ROPS price.
Tractor Rollbar | Rollover Protection | National ROPS Rebate Program
There are many donors to this program. However, one stands out more than others. Land-O-Lakes products. They donate to this program directly from their food sales in the grocery stores.
There is a guide for even DIY installation.
Self Installers | National ROPS Rebate Program
And, the program will cover the ROPS sold by Fredrick's or any of their UTDA dealers or Hoye (same ROPS system).
However, the ROPS program will not cover a canopy type ROPS. So, be mindful of that.
I would highly recommend anyone without a ROPS to look into this. Folding ROPS are covered in the program.
