Pics from the progress. Rain held off til last evening/night out there, luckily. Got the 1.5-2 acre field cleared of stumps and the pole shed site prepped to start building this weekend, hopefully.

Buddy from that area who hunts "injun" rocks all the time wants to walk it looking for artifacts from revolutionary/civil war artifacts. There was a camp nearby that nobody knows exactly where it was, but he figures with a water source like that, they may have traveled along it at one point.

I would definitely vote against allowing your buddy to artifact hunt. Been there, done that. Was given a couple of arrow heads and later found out the "hunter" found a set of captains bars, canteen, sword, buttons and who knows what else.

He's not like that (I know, I know...they never are) but this guy has come through for me on many occasions and I'd trust him with my life.

Supposed to start/finish the pole shed this weekend. I have to go out of town, but pops will be there to snap pictures, I'm sure.

Also, for s and g's, we went ahead and planted some wild bird food (millet, milo and an occasional sunflower) in part of the field. Been getting rain lately so it should be sprouting now. Be interesting to see how well it grows in the field that has had nothing done to it regarding lime. A $12/35lb bag, we didn't waste much money if nothing happens.

You NEED a rachet rake.

You can windrow all that slash and cut your handwork by 95%.

TSC has a 72" on hold for us and the price is........$99
Hope it fits our bucket and all that jazz

I use mine every week for just that type work.

Not the perfect tool for most jobs, but an excellent tool to have on the bucket for a variety of projects.

Heck, you can even use it to furrow the ground where that dozer has been running before you plant grass..... works great!

For the price, we can't go wrong

You doing mostly "pushing" with it or do you go backwards like backdragging? My only concern is all the stumps under the debris/slash. I'll be hitting plenty, I'm sure.

I mostly push when piling logging slash.... it takes some time to get the technique right but when you do it makes short work of wind rowing stuff like you have for burning........ back dragging is good for ripping out small stuff or smoothing some rough ground.

I hit stumps all the time...... just go slow/easy and remember it isn't a dozer and you'll be fine. Think smooth/steady vs fast. Run in 2wd while learning if needed.

Haven't had a chance to check out how it fits yet, but did manage to sneak by on way home from Columbia to see what's been done. Will have more pics tomorrow, but took these before the rain got worse.

snagged pops' camera as he was there when the goings were going on :)

They should be back out there today finishing up so the roof guys can lay the tin. It's sunny where I am so hoping it is there, too.

What they were able to accomplish yesterday. It was pouring in that area yesterday....kind of glad they aren't working today so the water will have a chance to run off and it is supposed to rain again.

SO, that's looking good! Are you going to put vents in each gable to let some of that Carolina steam out? I would even consider one passive vent at one end and one Solar vent at the other. The power vent in my steel building drops the temp about 15 degrees in the summer....from roast to simmer:laughing:

Thanks! Bought some plastic vents from Lowes the other day with the intention of putting them up, but will have the builders make some out of wood. We will definitely have one powered vent set with a thermostat to help exhaust the hot air. If it needs another, we'll add it.

How big are those timbers? They appear bigger than 6 X 6.

They are 8x8s
the original plan to go with 6x6s was scrapped after my dad realized once all was said and done, he'd be upset he didn't do the 8x8s. I think his plan is to have those posts semi exposed (breaking up the siding) when we enclose this portion of the building.

Looking great so far and I can't wait to see the finished product.

Thanks!

Attached is the plan for the house part. Had a buddy draw them up based off another similar design. If you see anything that is screwed up, feel free to let me know! View attachment FP3 REVISED.pdf
