Well they don't get frost bite but when it's running the wind chill will effect how much heat is being lost. This will show up in how hard your cab heater needs to work to keep the glass clear. Also when you shut it down if it is in the wind it will cool down to the ambient temp quicker then if it is some place that is calm. That might effect how long it takes for your fuel tank to jell up. Once it is shut off and down to the ambient temp. Then wind chill will not affect it. Your house also looses heat faster in a wind. It痴 just a matter of the temperature difference of the surface and the air passing over it.

Bingo!

Our governor closed all public schools in Minnesota for Monday!

Just because it might get as cold in the Twin Cities for one or two days as we get on a regular basis up north, the entire state gets in a tizzy. Metro wimps. Meanwhile, the rest of us will go to work as usual.

Absoluteley . Any kind of block heater etc is far less effective with a high windchill , Even just to shelter a machine behind a bale stack or trees helps . It may not make sense on paper but come and start our CATS out in the bush in -30 they will tell you different :)
That's a good point. If your trying to keep it warm with a block heater and the wind if it is below zero can strip out all the heat that the heater produces. That's why covering my tractor in tarps the other day helped get it started. The Mr. heat on a 20 lb. propane bottle inside the tarps helped a lot also.

What do you mean tonight, they've only been outside for "necessity" trips all day!

ferrari99 Does Al Gore cause hot flashes there also.?
And the group of tourist that caused the 2 ice breakers to be frozen in at the South Pole looking for cause of melting ice in the summer time. Were they not from Australia?

In Ark. and the Ozark Mountain region elevation of 1000 feet or less and temperature is 10 deg. it feels cold to thin blooded citizens.

Not all tourists... some are 'scientists' retracing the Mawson expedition's trail and hoping to show how badly the southern ice cap has melted since then. Apparently the melting is pretty bad since they managed to get not one but two ice breakers frozen in ice in the middle of the Antarctic summer ;) They left from an Australian port but then I imagine a lot of ships heading towards the Antarctic probably do. In fact the US ice breaker on the way to save the other two left from an Australian port after taking on supplies.

I know the Canada TBN'rs are friendly & helpful, but you guys really can keep your polar air masses to yourselves!

From the regional paper today...:cold:

So really... how cold is it?

1. In Minnesota, some ski and sledding hills and ice rinks have been declared closed until Tuesday. Even the cold-weather recreation enthusiasts said it was just too cold!

MORE: Subzero temperatures settle across U.S.

2. A "polar vortex" or blast of extreme cold has arrived. The vortex is a cyclonic air mass usually hanging out over Canada. It's unusually far south over the Great Lakes, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

3. School is closed Monday for the entire state of Minnesota, as well as cities and districts in Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana and Iowa, among others. No learning, kids. It's too cold.

4. Southern states are bracing for possible record temps, with single-digit highs expected Tuesday in Georgia and Alabama.

5. Trash and recycling aren't getting picked up on Monday in Minneapolis. That's stinking cold.

6. Remember, frostbite and hypothermia can set in quickly at 15 to 30 below zero.

7. Green Bay Packers fans were grilling beers Sunday while tailgating to unfreeze them. Resourceful, but that's cold. And those beers must have been ice cold.

8. Officials in Missouri said it was too cold for rock salt to be very effective on the roads, making them particularly dangerous, and several Illinois roadways were closed because of drifting snow, according to the Associated Press.
