This morning it was -2* got up to +2 for the high so far. Suppose to be -5 tonight. No record lows for us as they were set in 1924, but we are getting close. But they said we could see some record low highs today and tomorrow.

Below zero yesterday, plus forty and hard rain today. The roads where a sheet of ice this morning and most of the schools were closed. It's heading back down below zero for tomorrow morning. "If you don't like the weather in New England wait ten minutes" OK who said that first?

Right now, -20 with wind chills of -37. Just came in from feeding the critters. Actually a bit warmer than it has been. Went straight for the wood furnace to throw a couple more logs in. The heat felt soooo good!

Talking to a customer of mine in ND: I said Hey it seems the rest of the states are "gripped in the icy grip of the coldest weather seen in years, temps as low as 15 below." She said "While the rest of you are freaking out, we simply call this winter."

It sure as heck hit me today, think I might have froze up and blew a hose in the Honda, it was checked a while back but something happened it puked all the coolant & wont start... low on oil but not empty hoping the thing is still able to run but think the coolant flooded the crank sensor and maybe more...

Temperature dropped 52 degrees since this time yesterday. Just 3F now!

We got down to 6 this morning. The thermometer on the porch said 12 but it picks up quite a bit of heat from the house. The wifey's car said 6. One of the kid's schools had a two hour delay and when we went to school the temp was 12 or 13 depending on the location. The diesel F350 started right up with the 0x40 oil and no use of the engine block heater. :thumbsup: The truck sure was cold though. Even my kid noticed the noisier engine. The manual tranny was NOT liking some gears even though it is running a synthetic.

The lowest it has been at the house is 9 so this is a record for us. TDC. Too Danged Cold.

The wood stove kept the living room at 74 when I got up at 0630 and it is still 74 even though the temp outside has warmed up to around 20! :shocked:

It really is brutally cold. The school has the safety patrol opening car doors in the drop off zone and I was happy to see the safety patrol was not out working in this weather. I think the wind chill had the temps down around 0 to -5. Looks like the wind has stopped thank goodness.

Not all tourists... some are 'scientists' retracing the Mawson expedition's trail and hoping to show how badly the southern ice cap has melted since then. Apparently the melting is pretty bad since they managed to get not one but two ice breakers frozen in ice in the middle of the Antarctic summer They left from an Australian port but then I imagine a lot of ships heading towards the Antarctic probably do. In fact the US ice breaker on the way to save the other two left from an Australian port after taking on supplies.

chartz Believe your right about the group leaving the Australian port I was thinking of the group that paid for the tourist trip . Scientist and reporters and maybe ship captains don't read weather reports.
The American ice breaker should be arriving soon but where is the hourly updates.
When this "scientific" group gets back we will have special reports on how they suffered to get the information of Global weather warming.
