Have to keep your bucket cold, and spray it with Pam, or something maybe.

Hi to fellow Michiganders Don and Davey.

It's quite a year at that. But this snow (as you know) gets localized by the lake effect. Or so the weatherman says. We got mostly freezing rain on top this last weekend, Davey. Makes for a heavy layer of ice within the pile. It's gonna be a real tough Winter on the Whitetails too. Those deer punch through this crusty snow and get there legs bloody. Then the coyotes and wolves can move in and clean up on the sick ones.

Yea, I checked on the deer on the ridge behind my house here in NH, and saw that the coyotes had run some deer there once before this last layer of crust. I'll have to get back up there in camo, and sound like a mouse. :D

Hi Chuck,

I'm thinking that in this cold we are experiencing this year (0* yesterday morn and only 8*this morn)should make for easier removal of packed snow from the front buckets. Pam is a great idea and it also works on satellite dishs that tend to get covered with stickier snows that stick and freeze to the surface. This colder and drier stuff for me seems to drop out of the bucket easier than the Spring snows that pack. Kind of reminds me of my youthful experience at making snow balls. Some snow packed pretty good and made for a lethal stinger and some snow just was poor for snowball making and too light. It may have even exploded in your hands or the drier snow blew up in orbit after it got thrown.

Our deer herd is in for a rough time from here on out, Chuck. They are weak from being in the yards so long anyway. And as the surface top portion of snow in woods hardens by day and freezes at night, deer become easy prey for hungry coyotes or wolves. The canines stay on top of the snow when a chase ensues and thee deer punch through and their hocks get bloody. All the more encouraging for a hungry Kioti er make that coyote.

It's -1 Deg. here in Saginaw this morning. I guess i will let the Kioti sleep in!

The deer here were still moving about freely before this last round of snow, rain, and crust. I'm sure that they are yarded in the hemlocks now since there is 3+ feet of snow on the level in protected areas. The ***** willows here are just starting to peek out, so hopefully the deer won't have to hang in there much longer. I've had coyotes run deer across my yard, and though it is the natural thing, it still bothers me. Thankfully, when the snow is powder, the coyotes concentrate on the wild turkeys since they have a hard time taking off. We have lots more turkeys than deer!
Looks like your Kioti is doing a great job for you! I remember one very wet storm that I cleaned up with my loader. When I dumped the bucket I would get a perfect molded bucket shape every time. I was thinking what a great snow fort that would have made! :)

I'm considering oil selection as I have roughly half the hours on his machine until the 50 hour mark happens. The other day when I was in Walmart, I saw a gallon of good old Shell RotellaT 15W40 motor oil. Now as you all know from past experience (and I once had a Ford pickup for ten years and it had a diesel)Shell Rotella has "Diesel written all over it.

So as usual I decide to check specs in the owners manual after buying the RotellaT to make sure this stuff is legal with Daedong/Kioti. It's got all these goofy classifications on it but fails to contain the designation of CC or CD that Kioti calls for. Not only that, Kioti must not like the low ended viscosity such as the 15 as in 15W40 that's on my Wal Mart RotellaT. It claims oils suitable only if they bear the 10W30/40 or straight old SAE10 or 20 30 only depending on tempeeratures. And what's with the "T" on the end of Rotella ****** because all I want is a gallon of oil suitable for my new diesel engine. So, I throw my arms up in disgust because when the dealer delivered the tractor he wrote down use oil with the CH4 designation and I'll be darned because that's no where on the list from Kioti or Shell either.

You could say I'm being all to picky and just throw the RotellaT in the crankcase for fill and call it good. But this is still getting ridiculous because you all know that these big companies can void a warranty with a stroke of the pen. I guess we all know the "T' in Rotella probably doesn't mean squat and the oil would be just fine in my CK20. I just wanted the tractor world to know how I feel about these manuals and their specifications they do and don't include. They have too many lawyers involved and not enough cherry tree mechanics when it comes to practical application and writing owners manuals.

There, I have ventilated now.

You could read about oils for hours on the oil and lubricant forum but it might make you crazy. I used Rotella T from Costco in my CK20 and will use it with my DK40 as well. Hard to argue against the most popular diesel oil in the country even though some folks like to spend more for synthetic. I use synthetic in my car as the manufacturer recommends it but unless I ignore Kioti's oil change interval recommendations it would be a silly expense to use synthetic IMO.

The info on my DK35 also said to use 10w30 but my dealer was the only place I could find it. Put it in at 50 hours and when the time came for the next oil change I went back to the dealer. He told me they were now using 15w40 which I can get almost anyplace.

My son is the manager of an oil distribution company so I have been buying it from him in bulk. about $2 a quart.

OK, islandTractor, If it's good enough for you tried and true CK tractor users it's good enough for this CK. RotellaT will be the tractor oil for me.

ToadHill, I just checked with the local Shell oil distributor and believe it or not he has RotellaT in 10W30 and I gather would have 10W40 as well in Gallon jugs. That was the good news. The bad new is he wants me to take a case of the stuff which is 6 Gallons. Hardy har har har. That equates to at least 8 oil changes or so. i didn't volunteer to warehouse that stuff. One of the guys at our coffee meet down at the restaurant every morning drives a truck for them. He claims that one of his stations he delivers to carry's it in the quart size. He will pick up 4 quarts for me the next time he's there.

How about this question. For you guys changing your own oil in these CK's. Do you happen to know like for instance the Fram or Purolater part numbers of the oil, air and tranny/hydraulic filters or do I have to get them at a dealer.

There must be a conversion or application guide sheet online somewhere. My dealer is just so far away but I could have them delivered in a pinch via ups or US Mail.

Thanks for hanging in there
