JD 3005 full cage ROPS/FOPS build

Greg, my family and friends 4 wheel pretty seriously and build our own buggies. A lot of thought goes into grab handles in the seating area of the cage. Takes some practice to learn what to do with your hands during rollover. We use a T bar infront of the passenger seat and lecture new riders to NEVER LET GO of those handles, even doing the easiest climbs.

I hear ya... been running mud toys since high school days... seat belts were always mandatory for myself and passengers. A quick ride up a logging road had this k5 on its side on the way back down... loose chainsaw in the back nearly hit me in the back of the head, passenger was hanging by his seat belt above me.

And that was one of the times I wasn't drinkin'.

I have had egress in mind ever since I put the plywood top on mine and smacked my head the first time.

This is the sole reason I haven't lowered my ROPS to fit in the cargo container and commenced my FOPS build. I'm not losing 4" headroom! :)

Got more done today. Final version of the front post. I gave up on paint today, due to low temperatures.

I did get it welded together, mostly. Enough that I won't worry about using it, and can still add the gussets in the corners that I want to, then remove to paint later.

I also stuck some little pipes up to see how limb risers will look.

Now, due to dirty looks from the wife who expected me to be helping wrap the kids gifts, I gotta go help with that...

Hopefully you don't get wrapped and sent to the dog house for not helping a bunch. Although the dog is getting lonely without his usual company of you.

I hope you know I'm just joking around here

Here's some additional pictures

I want to add some screen on the back too, not sure if I will use this one in the picture or make something out of a bigger sheet of expanded metal I have, with tighter weave (smaller holes).

Here's a shot from today, outside with less background clutter, easier to see what it really looks like.

I was cleaning out the pony's stall, and while tramming back and forth to the manure pile, I noticed that the motor noise resonates inside the box tube... noticeably louder, and that's even with no top cover yet. Never had any objectionable noise increase with the plywood I had on it before.

The tube is acting like a speaker and amplifying the vibration. You'll need to stiffen it up more to get it to quiet down, or add more mass.
