Good to hear that you have it fixed.
I'll have to keep watch in case that happens to my 4300.

Can/would you tell us, was the broken one a non-repairable or repairable (i.e. one that could be taken apart) ??
What was the replacement part number?

jdparts shows two different cylinders for the 4200.
One (15B) looks to be repairable and the other (15A) not.

The replacement cylinder I bought is repairable. The original from the factory was not. From time to time people claim the original welded cylinder can be fixed but I have not found anyone to do it. I still have it if anyone can do it!!

I do them.....I did two welded steering cyls this week.....one for a tractor and one for a forklift (vickers steering cyl)

they get machined apart, repaired (new rod sometimes) rewelded and tested, done......

they all can be fixed, just depends if you have enough experience/machinery/time.....or money....:D

Glad to hear you're back in business with a relatively simple, albeit expensive repair.

It sure beats the alternative if something went wrong in the steering column, which would surprise me given it's protected location.

JD4Life What were you doing at the time to break that cylinder? Did a rock come up or what? Where did that nut you find come from? Good to hear your back in business.

I was just doing some grading with FEL when it came apart. I did not hit a rock or anything. After replacing the cylinder it appears that the shaft on the old one simply came unthreaded. I guess I have a spare one, but would sure like to know how to not have it happen again. See photos.... Again thanks to all for the help!!

Unthreaded?
Don't understand what can "unthread". Pics don't reveal much to me.

But the tractor disabled by the crick is a sad sight, for sure, for sure.

Sorry for the lame pics. The inside of that shaft is threaded about 1" from the end. When I put the shaft in the cylinder fully I can turn the shaft and get it to rethread onto something in there (assuming a piston of some sort). The part number for the new cylinder is LVA14159.

Now it won't start. I think it is the thermistor from everything I have read here. It is always something.....
