Buy the 425 Deere. That as a great model for them, better than the stuff they sell today IMO.

Those plastic cam gears are history....they long ago were replaced if the tractor had any hours on it at all.

What years were the plastic cam gears used? I have a 1989 JD 285 so I suspect it may have the plastic cam gear. I has just over 700 hours now.

5 or 6 years ago the water pump started leaking. I had the local JD dealer repair it. I doubt they replaced the cam gear at the same time. They never mentioned it.

The other reason I ask what years, is I am considering replacing the 285. Thinking a used John Deere AWS. I have not decided on gas vs diesel. Depends on what I find. If gas I want liquid cooled again.
