JD 4300 hydraulic screen clogged over and over

JP beat me to it.

I posted these on my rebuild thread, but it is useful to revisit them here.

Note that the bolt with the red paint on it does not need to be removed.
Also the rear plate has a plug in it (for the 2-speed option) and a sight
glass in it. These can seep fluid as the tractor gets older. I wish I had
resealed mine as I have a slight leak and don't want to drain all the oil just
for that.

Are you making an omelet in there?

I've not seen anything like that before. I think maybe Roy wins another one.

Ok so thats the stuff that we keep getting. I cleaned the case out and have a new screen (smaller new part number) and filter in. Problem is that I wasn't able to get it back together. The shaft on the bottom right is really hard to line up because its so long it hangs down too far. I actually pulled it out by accident and the gear on the other side fell off. (can someone confirm that there is only one part attached to the shaft? I hope there isnt a washer or something sitting in the bottom of the case) That freaked me out. I didnt want to get this deep in this tractor I thought I could just take the cover off clean it and put the cover back on, but there clearly has to be a strategy for reassembly which I am not familiar with. I noticed the gears have a white circle on them I'm assuming that this means that the white circle side faces the rear. I hope it does not need to lign up like a timing chain or timing gears. I cant think of a reason that the gears would need to be lined up a certain way. I noticed the plug that dave mentioned and now believe I will have to push it out to put this back together. I hope I can use the same plug...I want to get this thing going again and not have to wait for parts.. So right now the tractor is sitting (outside) with the cover only partially on and no oil in it. Obviously I cant move the tractor now and it is suppose to rain tonight. I put a garbage bag over the small hole between the plate and the housing. You guys have been great helping and now I really need help. What is the best way to get this together? I'm desperate now..

Happy to oblige, Roy. How many hours on your 4400? Isn't it getting
close to time to replace your hyd oil? I want to see what yours looks
like in there.

JOHN, I have a hard time viewing your pix because they are so large.

You really wanted to keep the PTO gears on the cover plate. The red
bolt I noted above helps to do that. Too late now, but you want to
keep that one holding the one gear on. There is no particular alignment
of the spline shaft coupler.

If the lower right plug or the sight glass is leaking, remove it then replace
it using some sealant, like RTV silicone.

Is that rust I see on one of the larger gears? That is NOT a good
sign. It would take a bunch of water and sitting a long time for that to
happen. Maybe the 3-pt cylinder housing (top cover) is compromised
in a way to allow rain water to get in?
