LB,
I see even though your two local John Deere dealerships have closed, there's a much larger dealer coming soon...
Bridgeport Equipment will be opening over on route 7 where Wolohan Lumber used to be... they will be employing 40 people!

I think what's interesting about this is this is exactly the direction described inr ecent posts concerning JD small local JD dealerships closing and the larger ones with multiple locations are getting larger...

I was reading in the newspaper that Bridgeport Equipment paid 2 million dollars for the building and property alone, before they do any remodeling to it, let alone sell the first tractor there. It seems to me with this kind of overhead, I wonder how these mega-dealers can sell for less than the small place they are replacing?

IF they have a grand opening 1/2 price sale on the tractor of my choice I might be interested in getting a JD.

Mr. Brown, I was just curious. I looked in your profile, and it says Hours:77..surely that is a mistake. I would have thought that with all your posts and the commentary you provide, your hours would have been way up there. Maybe your just new to tractoring. You sure liven up a discussion, I know that.

Was that 77 whole hours? Or was it 77.5 or 77.6, etc...?

For anyone in the Mid-Ohio Valley interested in John Deere tractors and such, along with other power equipment, tool rentals, and outdoor clothing, I see there is an article in today's newspaper about Bridgeport Equipment's grand opening of their fourth location.

The Marietta Times: John Deere and more at new Marietta store

After the shakeup LB brought to our attention I'm afraid of green now. Sounds like MTD's the way to go. Do they make remote control models? I'll need about 10 or 12 of them ganged together so I don't have to change implements. Then, in the winter, I can just look through the window while I work. This is going to make cabs obsolete!

I don't have use for a tiller. I use my tractor mostly in a truck shop; pallet fork work, box blading a rear gravel parking, snow removal in the winter with either the box blade or a 74" 3ph snow blower (seldom use the loader bucket), pulling semi trucks once in a while, moving ball hitch trailers with the 3ph drawbar. I even loaded a race car body once into a Refer from the rear using the forks. The front end was tied back to the frame. Worked slick. By the way, the MTD thing was just a joke.

3 JD dealers in my area going out of business. JD is clamoing down on the small dealers, so they're basically getting PUSHED out because of big business.

Deadman, where in Wisconsin are you located? I grew up in Wisconsin and used to work for a dealer in the eastern part of the state. They are a one store operation, but they still run a pretty good business.

I still get up there quite a bit to visit family. I have five deeres I look after up there for people. Could you tell us which dealers are going out of business?

If I had a Tiller for my BX23 I'd have to be changing back and forth between it and the BH every 15 to 30 minutes. Can you imagine the labor intensity of doing that 10 to 15 times a day?
Wouldn't leave much time for getting much work done on the project would it?:)

The only shake up I can portend is the opening of the new JD dealer here may shake up 3 of our local dealers that have benn in busines for several years.

1* the local Echo dealer
2* the local Wheel horse /Toro dealer
3* The local Mahindra dealer.

The new JD dealer will be handling all three of these brands which might put the hurt on the 3 locals.

Gosh, I was only reporting the news of a new business in the valley that has opened. I didn't mean to upset you. First you were unhappy when two John Deere dealers closed in your area, and now you're upset because a new John Deere dealership has opened.

Personally, I prefer the nice folks 30 miles to the east, but I thought I'd mention the new place right over by you in case anyone else was interested.

keerym: I live like 45 miles NorthWest of Green Bay, WI.
There is a Deere Dealer in Lakewood, WI that lost JD only a few months ago. There is a dealer in Abrams that is on the brink and will most likely be cut at the end of this year, and the dealer in Coleman is really small, so i ASSUME they'll go out soon too. Its sad, but Deere just wants the big dealers, I guess!
