JD Special Offers

Mike,

Does anyone know the date when the JD rebate started?

Sometime in the last week or maybe even in the last day or two. I'm like you. I ordered in March...yet to take delivery or sign final paper work. Talk to your dealer on this. Dealers are usually prompt in receiving JD marketing bulletins that alert them to incentives, offers, product design changes, etc. They in kind should be alerting you to special deals like this coming down from big JD. Also seems like if they are participating in this offer, they should pass the savings onto you considering you haven't taken delivery yet.

...This is not the dealer's money that they're giving up...

"Offers end July 31, 2002, and are available at participating dealers. "

I think it does cost the dealer... 50/50 ...? Normally, a dealer will build his "share" into his discount offered to the customer... ex. normally discounts a $17k tractor to $15k... but with this participation he discounts to $15,600... then with this special program takes the $600 Mfr. money and another $600. of his money for a new price of say $14,400. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

So... if you already got a "low-ball" price of $15k before the program started... you may get another "50%" the mfr. half down to the $14,400... but not $13,800... but if you do... it was more than likely a higher profit margin to begin with...

Are you sure about that John? I know it's not that way in the auto industry or horse trailers.

Hi Richard,

I couldn't get an exact percentage breakdown, it may be 60/40, 50/50, 70/30... no one is saying for sure... but the dealer does "share" in the rebate... (he builds it in his discounted price)

Usually the program is announced long in advance for dealers to plan accordingly... this from Deere came in like a storm in response to New Holland and Kubota rebates... kinda like a knee jerk situation... (In this case, the web site had info posted before a number of dealers were contacted and told this new program went into effect.../w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif)

Again, I just don't want the guys to be disappointed that ordered their tractors a month ago at a "substantial" discount and then expect the same dealer to give them another say $1200 off the "final" price on delivery because of this new JD program... I would expect 1/2 that amount from a dealer to be rebated...

These tractor rebate games are fairly new to the Ag industry anyways... not like these national automobile rebates that have gone on for years... (Yes, a national auto rebate is normally 100% factory... but a "regional" rebate to move slow moving product is usually sharing or participation with the dealer...)

Richard, JMIII and all:

I spoke to my dealer this afternoon about the new JD program and he echoed John's comments. Apparently, they may be required to maintain later Saturday hours and otherwise contribute in some fashion to the program. He said they have changed parameters twice in as many days.

My dealer has really been easy to work with so far and his approach to this new innovation is consistent. He told me that he would split the $1200 with me and that seems fair, especially in light of John Miller III's remarks. I have visited with another dealer from whom I'm purchasing a toothbar and he maintained a similar position. I look at it as a $600 windfall and I think that my original deal was fair.

After my deal is complete, I'll probably be singing the praises of my dealer. He has been great to work with so far and I plan on passing on detailed info, hopefully within the next month.

That's interesting to know John. That must be the same on the special financing as well. I know when I pay cash they will always give me a better deal than when I try to use the "special financing" that they have.

I wound up with a very sweet deal on my horse trailer. My wife had gotten me a new one but when I was out there getting some work done I was looking at another one. I said I'd sure like to trade for that one and he said he could just about do it. He said he had a guy that had been looking at this one when my wife bought it and he had come back and wanted it. He called him and the guy said he would take it. On the other one Sundowner had just come out with a $5k rebate, all from the mfg. on last years model. He sold it to me for his cost MINUS the $5k rebate. I wound up only paying about $3800 for 4' more living space and a 4' tack. Gotta love those rebates!!

I'll echo what Bill and JMIII just shared. Following is what my dealer e-mailed me today.

"The program was advertised on the website before they made it available to the dealers and there has already been one revision. The program as listed on the website is intended to reflect discounts from full retail price, and a portion of what they are advertising would be dealer sponsored. That being said, there will be a discount to the dealership at time of settlement for your tractor and I will pass on to you (deduct from our agreed upon price) whatever that amount turns out to be....I can't give you an exact amount at this moment (as I said there is a pending revision) but it appears I'll be able to apply in excess of $500 to your purchase."

So, best that I can gather for anyone out there considering a purchase of a 4x10 series tractor is a 'good' dealer will provide an additional discount, rebate, or whatever you want to call it above and beyond what their previous best price was. This amount should be about half or more. At worst, the dealer will act ignorant, claiming no knowledge of the new JD incentive. In this case, it might be prudent to buy elsewhere.

Bob,
Thanks for the info... I knew Mark at K.C. Canary would come thru... Ah the difference between a good and not so good dealer!
Just reinforces the how important the dealer is in the purchasing/Brand equation!

Jim...

That's why KC-Canary is a John Deere Performance Excellence Dealership, the only one in New York State. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Bob,
The only footnote that applies to the 4000-10 compacts is footnote #1. It reads:

1. Offers end July 31, 2002, and are available at participating
dealers. Prices and models vary by dealer. Taxes, freight,
setup and delivery not included. Offers valid in the United
States. Prices in U.S. dollars.

I don't think the 20% and "commercial use" terms apply except on those items with the appropriate footnote reference (#2), which includes the "inventory clearance" 4000 series compacts. In fact, it may not even apply to the 4000 series as far as the rebates go. As I read it, it only applies if you want the 5.9% financing which would then apply to both 4000-10 and 4000 series.
