JD X729 alternatives???

Hope your weights work for you. You may want to check the tire tread too, i.e. make sure it has good tread, and use lower air pressure.

The wait for a used X749 may be awhile. Mine won't be available used for decades!

Those weights will help a lot. I hope it works out for you. I've never tried rubber chains before; didn't even know they made such a thing. They might be worth a try if the weights alone don't work. But, I'm betting the weights coupled with soft tires will make a big difference. Keep your front tires hard for easiest rolling too. Happy mowing.

Well, one thing is the 1850 with mower is now on sale at my dealer for $8350/down from the $8595 I recently posted.
Think ya could get a negotiated price of $8350 on a JD X729?

In my estimation, comparing these 2 units, is kinda like comparing apples to oranges... No??? The 1850 would be more comparable to a miniature JD 2210, wouldn't it? Or am I missing something?

No but at almost twice the price of a BX an x749

The BX1850 and the JD2210 are both sub compacts.
The x729 x749 are both garden tractors.
My point is a sub compact is a lot more tractor than a garden tractor anyday.

Is the X749 a garden tractor? What is a garden tractor? Seems that the X749 is a very refined and capable machine in its own right...that is what it is, not what it is not AKA Bx whatever and that sort of thing. The Bx is cheaper because it is cheaper. The X749 is a superior machine because of the sum of its parts, qualities,and quality wins over the stricly paper/number crunching/final price argument. Will you never understand this LB??

Guess I better go take one for a test drive and see what all the fuss is about and find out what I've been missing.

I agree. They are not the same beast. There are a number of subCuts that will cost less than a x729. There are situations where each will excell over the other. Obviously Subcuts can do things that a GT cannot. Equally as obvious (to some of us, anyway) is that the X729 and the like will mow circles around any SubCut under many conditions. But, none of this is really the point. As I understand it, this thread is mostly about mowing. How about trying to help the man solve his problem instead of implying that there is only one real answer here?
