JD4400

In looking for a tractor in the 30-40 hp range I have come across a used Deere 4400 but can't find out very much about them. Primary use will be running a chipper and FEL lifting. The older 1070 with a bit more hp actually has higher asking prices, in spite of it's age.

Any drawbacks to the 4400 or the 1070?

I do not know what your intended use of the tractor is,IE: General use etc mowing/brushogging/running a tiller,but the 4400 is a nice tractor,32 HP about 28 to 29 HP on the PTO depending if it is a hydro or not. The hydro will reduce your pto HP by 1,because of all of the hydraulics being powered by the engine,but that is nothing.

Thanks for the 4400 comments, Primarily concerned with running a chipper and loading logs too large to chip. Primarily spruce blow downs and smaller, 4-6" dead trees still standing - and lots of old brush piles to clean up.

Still using a push mower for exercise and a garden tracor when grass is to tall, don't anticipate buying a brush hog, probably a rake and a box blade, perhaps a post hole digger. So I am looking for the most pto hp on a frame that can still get through the woods.

The 4400 will do everything you mentioned. I have 1800 hours on mine and have worked the guts out of it,skidding logs,tilling,brushhogging,loader work,post hole drilling,grade work with the back blade.
