Mike is right on the money about this. You will be sorely disappointed going from a "beast" of a skid steer, to the Deere 4520. Additional it's just a standard deal, nothing to write home about.
Don't get me wrong; I'm not trying to replace the skid steer with a tractor and assume it will do everything the skid does. I'd be a fool to assume that. The only thing I want in a tractor that the skid steer does is have close to the same lift capacity.
I will also agree that the price is not what I "want" to pay but it is the best I've received. I'm still sitting on the sideline rethinking about it.

Neil, I too was confused pertaining to the figures JD was quoting on their lift capacities with the CX loader, but after talking to several dealers and with JD's tech guru, I'm believing they are correct.

Roto.....if they are correct will your TC55 fit on my 16 foot trailer?? I need to arrange a pick up time. Hehehe. J/K

I don't always understand everything and I'm kind of a slow so I just have difficulty seeing this happen. I don't understand how the tractor can carry more out front, even further out front with a simple linkage to the loader bucket only!

To use compound linkages like used on the NH and JD skid steers I can understand that and see it. I realize there may be a difference in what the loader can do. I'm just going to have to visit my freinds down the road and see this for myself.

For those that might have seen a difference in the loaders first hand, I'd have liked to see the pressure settings on the tractors before and after as well as to check the flow. Some tractor's have offered big pump gallonage but showed low performance on lift and speed for the hydraulics do to inferior plumbing. I've seen two tractors that were identical not perform at all the same do to the settings from the factory.

well a friend of mine has a 4720 and i will have a tc55d and we will both have a contest to see who can lift more. The only test i can think of for the lift amounts is to have him drive under the tongue of my trailer with my tractor on it for weight. i will have to position him so the center of the bucket is doing the lifting and then position so the back of the bucket(closer to tractor) is lifting and try to see if it can lift more at the center. I will have to position my tractor on trailer at the correct spot so that he has maximum lift. I dont know any other way to test it. My friend may not be into this idea though hehehe.

Tact
I will deliver my tractor if those figures are right!! hehehe

But for the correct comparision he'll have to be using the 400cx loader and not the 400x. Be careful. How will you know the weight, or are you just trying to see who can lift more?

he bought his last year so not sure what loader and i dont care about weight nor who can lift more really i just want to see that loader lift more at center then at the pins. he might not have the right loader though.

But that is the difference JD is referring to. The 400cx loader shows that it lifts more at the center of the bucket than at the pins. The 400x loader does not. It actually lifts less at the center. That's my reason for choosing the 400cx over the 400x.

i know the difference and just want to see the miracle of the 400cx. If he doesnt have a cx then we cant test. I doubt he will anyway in fear of bending bucket. pretty hard to test like that anyway. I just know that the JD figures are wrong just like on many figures that are thrown out there. Like i said a brand new tc55d delivered.

this is the NH 270TL

Lift capacity @ 39 in. high @ 19.7 in. is 2213
Lift capacity @ 39 in. high @ pins, lbs. is 3500

this is the JD 400CX

Lift capacity to 59 in.@ pivot pin............2691
Lift capacity to 59 in.@ 500mm ahead.....2633

cant be that much difference. pivot pin is probabbly right on JD but 500mm ahead is way less.

How did the testing go? Any results?

BYW...I've decided on the JD. I've checked with probably 10 dealers far and near, and none can come even close to my package price. The closest I've got was $700 higher. I'm just now trying to figure out which way to ballast the rear, fill the tires, ballast box, or wheel weights.
