The daunting stack of OSB being dutifully guarded by the TC24D.

Re: Jim\'s Pole Barn Project - hopefully

Nice to see the project coming together, Jim.

Do you think you will have the roof on and shingled for winter? If not, be sure to use A LOT of stuff on top of the tar paper to hold it on when the winds come...yes, this is the voice of experience speaking... /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Re: Jim\'s Pole Barn Project - hopefully

Corner posts were 6X6 all of the other posts were 4x6 except where the man door will be, they are 4X4. All holes were dug, gravel put in and tamped, concrete poured, the post set, and then more concrete poured. I think I went through around 8 or 9 tons of sand/gravel mixture and and probably 15 bags of Portland cement. Should hold the poles down pretty well.

Re: Jim\'s Pole Barn Project - hopefully

Boy, I sure hope I can, but at the rate we are moving probably not. The first section we did I used normal roofing nails and 2x4 placed about. Held for the most part. Then I found out that those little button cap nails (little nails w/ about 1" plastic disks on them) do actually work (I was a sceptic and someone told me they did so I tried them). That is what we've been doing the last 3 sections out of exclusively and they seemed to work. They held up to our 40 MPH sustained and 60 MPH gusts last week. On the edges I place them about 8 - 12" apart depending on the tar paper is laying. On the ends I place them about 6" apart. Sure did make it rough this past weekend when we had to fold back the last row of tar paper (we extend it past the OSB a little to protect the edges of it) to put the next row of OSB. I did more damage doing that then the wind did, that is why you see the couple of patches on the south side.

BTW, don't think I ever told you when you had your project going, but it turned out real nice. Good job. I was confused when you first started and couldn't see where you were heading, but it was obvious you knew as it sure looks good. I know what you mean about not wanting to loose what little dry space you have even it is just a temporary loss.

Re: Jim\'s Pole Barn Project - hopefully

I bet you guys forgot about me didn't didn't you? or at the very least had given up hope. Here is a picture of the south side that we pretty much already had sheet on. I did get 4 of the little 12" pieces put on this side. Still have 2 more to do.

This is looking at the rear of the north side of the building. We were able to get all of the sheeting on this side of the buiding this weekend /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif. I'm going to go today and order the shingles. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
