Re: Jim\'s Pole Barn Project - hopefully

OK here is the top of the back yet to be covered. As you can see we are starting to put in the 2x4s to give the OSB something to nail to where I/Carter Lumber messed up and didn't order gable trusses. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Re: Jim\'s Pole Barn Project - hopefully

Jim,
Looking good. Get it "dried in" first, then worry about power.
When you want to get the electric in.........you know who to call. You get the wires to the barn and call me.
Send me an e-mail with what you want to do inside the barn and I may have some supplies here, or at least some ideas on what to do in there.

I appreciate that offer. I definately will take you up on that. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

/forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif Actually when I said boxes for the electric I was talking for the outside outlets and lights as some of them have special covers to go around for the vinyl siding and such. That is what I meant.

When I do get ready to go buy the wires and the box, I'll give you a call and see if we can do a road trip to Lowes over on Georgesville. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

What are your thought on getting the main box, a few lights, and a couple outlets in before the floor?

Also thank you for your words of encouragement. It has been a long process and seemingly never ending. Then Monica makes me feel even better by saying "Why isn't it done yet?", or if I set down to take a break "You could have that side finished by now!" Sometimes it can really get you down.

BTW, let me know when/if you decide to do yours and I'll be glad to lend a hand or 2. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Jim; Before you put the J-Blocks on make sure you cut the hole for the handibox to go thru. I think you'll have a rough time if you put the J-Block on first.

Re: Jim\'s Pole Barn Project - hopefully

Jim,
E-mail me your thoughts on what you want to put in there. Number of lights and type. Number of outlets and power usage. Any heat?. In our climate, regular flourescent lights will not work. Not without heat.
I would put a sub-panel in there, which I think you will do any way. Just depends on how many separate circuits and total power usage you need, as to how big you need to go.
If you plan on a raised floor for part of it, you can save a little bit of wire by going below. Not much, but every little bit helps. We just need to consider rodent control if the wires run under the floor. They LOVE plastic insulation on wires.

That is what I was meaning. I knew I wasn't describing it well, but that is what I was trying to say.

Re: Jim\'s Pole Barn Project - hopefully

I think the whole floor is just going to be concrete so that it can have multiple uses i.e. if attachments for the tractor expand they can go into the workshop area or if we get a 3rd vehicle I could also "squeeze" the 3rd one in if I knew we were going to have a snow or ice storm.

I will PM as I get closer to implementation on my thoughts and plans.

I was doing some rough guessing and calculating this morning in the shower though. I think there will be 6-8 light switches just inside the man door. 3 for outside lights, 2-4 for inside lights, and one for the air compressor. Guess I'll be making lots of labels when the time comes huh?
