Guys I have followed this thread with great interest as I too am looking for a chipper. This may not be a good question to ask but as it has been going on for quite some time and I was wondering has anyone actually chipped any brush yet   Sorry about this just had to ask. And thanks for sharing your trials and tribulation before we all bought one.
I have one for sale cheap!!! Make me an offer!!! :D

Still mostly in the slightly bent up metal crate... at least what didn't fall off is still there!!! And I'll throw in a gallon of Hunter Green touchup paint too!!! :)

Never been used at all!!! Much too dangerous to consider that!!!

I've used mine and it works great. I haven't found anything that it won't chip. I even tested mine by chipping an old 8' 6"x6" laying around without causing any problems. The only thing I did to mine was add a set screw on the feed roller connection. I'm only watching this thread because I can't believe what great lengths these guys are going to modify something that seems to work fine.
Just my opinion....

I am with ya........... there are hundreads out there running without any mods.... the originial Jinma Chipper.

I sell 99 % of my chippers serviced and they have done well. The weakest link in the chipper is the belts and the $18.ish drive knuckle that breaks sometime. Give it a good service and it is a chipping machine.

I also have sold hundreds of the Jinmas chippers with little or no problems, and if it did break a knuckle they are easy to replace under $ 20.00
I think what we are seeing in the different chippers is the quality of some of the parts, driveshafts for the feed roller in particular. Some of the pics I have seen are terrible. We have sold some Jinma replacement driveshafts to replace some of the cheaper ones being installed.Price drives the product sales,I think you get what you pay for. When we were approched by the other factory to sell there chippers our cost was a few hundred less,I can see why
now.I have seen ads with the Jinma woodchipper pic and the actual unit being something else

Why yes I have...:D I'm glad you asked Jack. I'll go out to one of my chip piles and get a photo (or two) for you, tomorrow.

Have had zero problems with it (so far), but have only chipped a little over 1 cu yard worth of wood and brush. It's amazing how much wood this chipper chips. :D :D

Does anyone know the answer?
How much wood would a wood chipper chip, if a wood chipper could chip wood?

I know the Bug's answer to that question, but I suspect his answer will change over time.

I'm just getting started with this little machine, but its performance has pleased me. I'm amazed how much wood it eats and how fine the chips are. Turns a big pile of brush into a little pile of chips.

Hopefully the Bug will have taken way more than his fair share of the bitter lemon taste in his favorite beverage so the rest of us can sip the sweet nectar of Chinese tea. But I also know it won't be long before he'll have a new & IMPROVED chipper up and running soon.

You are too much MadDog! What am I going to do with you???

But I can see that I'm being out-voted here fast in the great debate over the joy (or lack of joy) in dealing with Chinese chippers. As in so many other debates, the vast silent majority is apparently quite satisfied while vocal, trouble-maker moi is still one very angry and unhappy camper. So be it. I can tell when it's time to fold up my troubles and scoot away. I paid my money and I took my chances. Some win at this game. I lost. I will bow out of this conversation permanently now unless and until the time comes that I actually have something constructive to add.

Doug,
What exactly is mechanically wrong with the chipper you got? The only thing I heard is that the PTO shaft is no good, some paint is missing, and there are a few dents. Paint is easy. Dents are easy to live with. The seller should send you a new PTO shaft. If you bought it on ebay, file a claim with ebay. You might not get anywhere, but you might. I've filed claims twice with ebay. One time the seller refunded 1/2 of my purchase price. The other time the seller disappeared.

I too have run a (original) Jinma 6 chipper for 2 years with no problems. Bought it from Tony at Coastal Tractor in North Branford, CT. He advertises here.
The only mod I made was to the knuckles on the ends of the feed drive shaft. I read that one of the problems was that one end was cast to large and not finished smooth enough. I ground it to match the other end and reinstalled it. Problem solved. At the beginning of each year I clean out the ends with brake cleaner and lube then back up using a needle nose end on the gun. The chipper is worth every dollar I saved and works great.

I'm certain mine's going to work fine once the feed roller shaft problem is solved. The chipping part of the machine seems bullet-proof and the same for all of the many different makers of this chipper.
If this chipper was something I'd bought locally, at 'retail' price, then I'd be real unhappy. However, getting it relatively inexpensively on Ebay, with all the information about its problems posted on this forum, I understood there very likely would be some modifications to make. That came to pass for sure.
I do appreciate all the detailed postings on this subject. They've made the modification design much easier.
