Buying Advice John Deere 3320 or 3520

I would have already bought the used tractor with a try it out clause to make sure nothing weird is going on.

Sitting the tractor in the garage will keep it new and clean but it would not be much fun.

I have a field I want to smooth part of out and grow some grass, another area I want to plant corn or buckwheat. I have brush cutting to do, a fence to put in and someday I would like to build an bridge over my creek in the back. I also have lots of dirt to move around and a gravel driveway to widen. In the Winter time I will be removing snow.

Looks clean to me. Little dirty, and some rust though. I would tell them you want a full service thrown in. Fluids changed top to bottom, greased, etc. Might try getting them to thrown in a 30 day warranty just on case. I would definitely lean toward the used in your case.

Since you're not working in a wooded area and you are in upstate NY, I'd suggest you go for the 3520 cabbed machine.

BTW, I've had 3 Deere tractors, all used when I bought 'em. All had some degree of rust on the bucket...or paint somewhat faded.
These were nothing more then minor cosmetic blemishes.

JimRB: Turbo's sound pretty tough and you sound like you take care of your equipment as do I. The dealer will warranty for 3 months or 30 hours on their used equipment. I asked about an extended warranty but they said it was not an option.

The 3520 looks like it will clean up nicely! get the cab you'll regret not doing it otherwise. somebody else took the big hit on value of that tractor so i'd snap it up and give it a little TLC and it'll be like new.

and in a few years it will be worth close to what you paid for it. the cab tractors hold there value excellent.

30 hours is plenty of time to find any warranty issues. i've had my tractor for 2 months and it only has about 30 hours on it so far.

I'd buy that thing in a heartbeat.

Remember where you live. Get the cab!

Very good feedback everyone. I felt good when I test drove the machine and I now I feel more optimistic about the durability of the 3520. The salesman is holding the machine until we meet again tomorrow. I will see if the dealer serviced the tractor and if there are service records available. If all goes well it just might be working my back 40 by the end of the week.

Thanks.

No kidding, I'll bet the OP's area of New York sees tons of snow in a normal year.

Looking at the pix of the used machine, I'd say get it as it looks to be well cared for. Granted, the pix don't show the grille damage; but over all the machine looks to be in good condition. Take the advice of others and see what you can get the dealer to throw in to seal the deal.

Where I live, good quality used machines and implements are rare; therefore it's pretty much buy a new machine, which I prefer.

If you mentioned the year of the used, I missed it. Cab is a +, CX FEL is a +. Compare options to see for 3rd SCV, Power Beyond, Mid PTO eHydro. Some of these are expensive options and even more expensive to add after market. Even parts kit to add mid PTO are $$$$.

Except for PTO work you probably will not be able to use the extra HP of the turbo - will run out of traction first, but in Rochester, NY, cab will be real plus, not only in winter but also summer with AC.

Check Tractorhouse.com for comparative pricing.
