That was a neat video! I'm originally from snow country and had never heard of or saw that machine before. Interesting!!
From my research. Looks like the engine is a 820 west bend.

Some guy did one up modified to 940. Think in read, pics, video he went from slow like they were to close to 75 guessing.

Then a stock cylinder.

There was a lot of innovation back in the late '60s, early '70s. Hundreds of manufacturers, and often it was the successful business plan rather than the best innovations which survived. John Deere, Mercury, Evinrude, and Johnson all made sleds. The first two were likely the first liquid cooled. Bolens made a twin track with a sled pulled behind that you sat on. Bombardier and a company going by the name of Raider each manufactured twin tracked machines with a cockpit seating two people side by side, that likely were before their time.

It was like the early days of the automobile. Lots of company start ups, lots of innovation, A couple of things happened in parallel that drove change. In the early days, there were no trails, so snowmobiles had to be light, and float over the snow. Horsepower and handling weren't front and center. Popularity brought groomed trails. Then the horsepower and handling race was on!

Crap forgot to take some pics of inside difference. 🤦‍♂️

Just in case you missed it last week.

The stihl 261 replacement is the stihl 300.

4.5 hp (3,3kw) and a weight of only 4.85 kg, the new MS 300 CM has the best power-to-weight ratio in the 50 cm³ class (53.2 cm³ displacement),.

What are you asking @airbiscuit

Yep I know all about 501 4910 490 500 already.

Scared what echo going to do to the 501 myself.

They ruined the 4910 going to the plastic strato 4920. But least 4920 got coil spring antivibe.

Can buy 2 of 501 for 1 261 or 300.

Not disputing anything you said. I agree that they degraded the 4910

My dream saw in 50cc would be the 501 with that 4310 7310 air filter set up and the coil spring antivibe.
Love if they could keep it from going newer strato though. But like said is just a dream.

But if they do like their 4310 we dont get here into a 5010 etc. It will be a strato saws with coil spring antivibe. Great air filter set ups though.

Someone contacted me yesterday asking if this might be my old saw he has on the bench.

Helsel built one I sold at end of the 2010 race season.

Has everything I recall still. Just different starter handle.

She aint kept clean as she once was.

Guy in my FB group chainsaw repair has a echo 3600 needing a tank.

Talk about Christmas time for the guy with the echo 3600.

Looks like a good tank. 3600 3900 used same tanks etc. Just different bore sizes.

I searched today and couldn’t believe I still had the ole parts saw I stole from for my 2-3 echo 3900.

Were only made 3 years.

Had to get a ladder to see up over top 2 shelves. Was on top shelf in the back hidden behind everything else.

Now the issue is out of country and wondering if he wants to pay that high shipping cost. Customs duty and tariff bs his country has too.
