For folks that dont know. Those just older Echo 8000 when had the big carbs and the echo 4500.

4500's reminded me of the 346 OE saws.

I want to thank Scotty at Hockfire Saws - Logan, Ohio for 2 of the 3 things I ordered for wife that got delivered today.

She always complains about my gas stuff and she has issues trying to start when I am not around.

So thinking ahead for when I am not around anymore.

I ordered a V-modest battery pruner and holy chit those could take chit off quickly.

Also V-modest battery long pole pruner with another pole saw attachment too.

Then this mini tiller that uses battery.

All working and made her smile on the pruner itself.

To go along with all the other manual pruners and a battery weeder just bought too.

Least now I know she has a chance to keep doing what she loves to do here.

With 2 pruners. One was skinnier where hand is and fit wife's hand. The other was thicker and fit my hand better.

These things are unreal pruning with.

I second the motion on Scottie at Hockfire saws. It is always worth calling him. He knows his stuff, and doesn't try to push a sale. His prices are great. He carries so many things - gas and cordless - and it's hard to navigate all he has to offer. He can guide you to what best suits your needs. I am a repeat customer.

We been having discussion of the lightest chain setups on top handles.

So I broke out my first one I set up in 1/4 mini micro before switch the other 2 to nano 325.

Lightest set up I can go on 25cc micro 1/4”
😋

That archer bar dies going to nano 325 on this 25cc too

My other 2 25cc already have nano set ups.

35cc back to full chisel 3/8LP 63PS

That saw looks like it took an unexpected dunk in the cold ocean.

Made many of different ones over the years using some saws I have owned.

Egan woods ported, H side carb, unlimited coil 3120.

Most times was ran with 44" 60" but also local had a 72".

I used to put a short bar on it playing after tuning.

I ended up with this saw years back and sold to a friend north of me with his own shop.

Hopefully 440 can be saved. If not parts are parts setting on shelf.

Local took what parts he needed for his 46 to have on hand.
Then was going to part the rest out.

I was interested in the whole 440 myself. Piston hurt and fly missing one fin.

Ran # 2001 (+/- 1 y )

Found out in my group this is a transition 440. No decomp cylinder used when they went away from the 044.

Now that makes me want to use all oem stuff for a collector to own later.

After posting the stihl 440 no decomp saw I picked up the other day in my group.

Couple other guys that collect saws told me they are harder to find I guess and showed me ones that they had at one time or another. One was regular 440 like mine and one was arctic.

These were during that time I was told when transition from the 044 to the 440 in 2001.

Just like when I had SE tagged huskys with XP covers in their transition model years too.

Mine comes back to a 2001 plus minus a year. I have the serial # being run to see if any other info on it listed.

So if anyone else has a confirmed oem no decomp 440 post them up. So far found these 3 I mentioned.

Couple I found elsewhere and one a guy posted in my group thread on them.

Guess they are sought after by collectors. 12mm 440 no decomp saws early run to use up 044 stuff.

Check dates on 2 and 2001 plus minus a year.

2001 was when switching to 440 from 044.

Regarding PP4218AVX:
At the start of this thread the OP was talking about loose chains. So far I’ve had the chain come off twice while cutting. When I first got the saw (used and a throw away) I got it cleaned up and fixed so it would start. When I first took the cover off and saw that the cover was the only thing holding the bar and chain in place I thought someone forgot to replace the hold down nuts for the bar but then realized what the setup actually was. I also found a schematic and there were no hold down nuts. In the earlier posts there was mention made of a replacement traditional cover. What is that part number? Or can I just go back to a traditional set up and install chain holder nuts on the bar and treat the original cover as just a cover? I got this saw to go along with my Husky 24 inch Rancher. Thanks for any replies.

@Hoho223 I know there is a normal cover for 4620. Let me check to see if I have info saved on the smaller 4218. I cant recall that one or if just a simple bolt on too like 4620 one.

Do you have 2 bar studs like this?

Yes. Two fully threaded studs.
Yours should take this one like shown above.

Cover-Clutch 530058934

Nut 530015917 x2

I cant recall if tensioner comes in cover or you have to add them in. Easy to do too.
