Hiya,

The 50 to 67 bucks for a Mr Funnel will buy a mountain of automotive paint strainers that you can drop in a regular funnel every time you fill. (If your a regular customer at a parts store that sells automotive paint, just ask them for a handful next time your buying parts, most places will give you a short stack for free)

The bonus with the paint strainers is that if you have any algae in Diesel fuel, they will instantly plug solid, stopping the fuel and alerting you to the issue before you get a bunch in your equipment. They won't stop water however, if you use the correct additive for equipment that has a water separator, one that precipitates out water not the type that disperses, that will catch the water for you.

Tom

Greetings Tom, Did you actually read the description of the 59 dollar Mr. FUNNEL ??? Those are designed for semi trucks fueling at the pump with the big pump handles. They handle 15 to 20 gallons per minute. As I described twice . . The mr. Funnels I use are 13.99 to 19.99 depending on retailer. That model handles 3.5 gallons per minute. Then there is a small one also.

I had an older one also with a fine screen . . But the screen was flat (horizontal) and made of metal (stainless) . But the Mr. Funnel is vertical funneling so buildup doesn't slow down fuel flow. And the filtering material is hard to determine because it is so very fine . . .far finer than anything I've owned. And it is super "slick" so nothing sticks to it which really helps with being self cleaning.

At first I didn't like the idea of a lowered area where excess dirt snd fuel accumulates (2 to 2.5 ounces) . . but I was a disbeliever st the time. Now I understand how 3.5 gallons can be filtered so quickly without any quality loss. And no rusting or blocking or crappy cleanup issues.

I don't understand your "doesn't block the flow" or "and no rusting or crappy cleanup issues." comments. I pour out of a 5 gal fuel "can" and take the spout off and pour about 1/2 the 2 1/2" opening and it flows well, The funnel i have was bought before 1980 and there is no rust and I never have to clean it. Not to be rude but it sounds like you have listened to one too many Mr Funnel adds. Ed

Thanks Ed, but I'm clearly saying that you and I are filtering at different levels. My best other older filter lets too much thru that the mr. Funnel catches. Mr. Funnels and any other similar brands are doing molecular filtering that plastic or galvanized screens or even stainless screens can't do.

I do believe that they do filter to a smaller level than my old funnel does Just thought you were over stating some of the other points. I am glad you like your funnel and thanks for your reply. Ed

I guess I have a question for WalMart and Amazon. Why they only offer the most expensive funnels? I could understand Amazon but WalMart is not the first stop for commercial operators to get filters or funnels for that mater. I have not found a retailer that sells $13.99 Mr. Funnel.

I am a Mr. Funnel fan as well. I am convinced it is well worth the $20.00 I paid for it. I dump the excess in a jar and keep using it over and over unless I notice contamination.

Davesl708, If you want to get one I am not sure about all locations but all the Tractor Supply Stores around the southern Tn and Northern Al area are carrying them. With that being said I haven't seen the real expensive one there only the midsized one. I just keep my fuel filtered and buy it from a reputable fleet service.. I have yet to have a problem with either my off road or on road diesel. The clear bowl on my tractor is as clean as a whistle ;)

I was first told that only Amazon had them. When I checked at Amazon I found all 3 model sizes of Mr. Funnels there plus a couple accessory pieces. Then as I mentioned in earlier posts, I saw an ad at O'Reilly Auto Supply so I went there to get one. Nobody working there knew what they were or that they even carried them . . but we eventually found a couple. On sale for 14.99.

Then I was at Tractor Supply stores (3 in same day) for something else . . and I saw them there (at all 3 stores) and I managed to get one on sale for 13.99. Now 3 months later I was at a Northern Tool store and I saw them there as well for the regular price of 19.99..

But you need to understand that almost nobody working at any of these locations knows what they are . . in most cases they sell very very few because they aren't sitting by the funnels. They are by gas cans and if they were 19.99 knowing what I know today . . I'd have had one 20 years ago and saved myself lots of problems with small engines.

Thanks Wa11banger. I have never had fuel issues. I keep it fresh and from a high volume dealer. I do use Power Service in my diesel and StaBil in my gas.
I will check Northern Tool and see if they carry them here. Never hurts to filter one more time.

I use one of those paint strainers like the one above for my filtering. I have a medium sized Mr. Funnel and find it's just way too slow so I rarely use it. The paint strainer works great for everything and costs just a couple bucks and has a nice stainless screen. I haul a lot of my gas with plastic cans. One thing I have learned is that the gunk usually comes from the OUTSIDE not the inside of the can. I make it a habit to wipe off the area around the spout and cap as well as the threads. There is a lot of gunk and tree debris that seems to find it's onto those cans.
