ken's bolt on hooks on b3200 bucket

   / ken's bolt on hooks on b3200 bucket #11
I haven't welded mine up yet (project for this weekend) but this is what I'm going to do on my B3200 bucket with a piece of 3X3 angle. Then the weld on hooks and shackle mounts will be welded to the top of the angle. The photo shows a piece of 2X2 angle that I had laying around that I used for the concept. Disregard the holes on the drawing of the angle/bucket lip. I was considering doing plug welds in addition to stitch welding the edges. Not going to do the plug welds. I'll post pictures after I get it done.

Beat you to it, lol. I found 2.5x2.5 (3/16) angle fits nicely. Here is were I am at today.

I have often wondered why hooks wouldn't just come standard?

Simple answer: Liability. No OEM offers them-even on large construction grade machines, and some dealers will not add them either.

Here's how I mounted them on my B2920, which has the same sort of "lip" on the bucket as the B3200:

I understand the quandary with this type of bucket lip, so you either have to mount the hooks back a bit, or reinforce the lip as others have shown here.

I've been using the hooks quite a bit since I mounted them last fall, and this mounting location has worked well for me. One thing I do like about this mount is that I get a lot of control/leverage when curling the bucket with the chains hanging down, and I think it also puts the stress far away from the bucket lip, creating more meat to handle loads.

s219, that was a new idea on placement and it would seem to move stress back towards pivot point with full curl power applied. Did you give any thought to placing them inline with the FEL arms? Anyway, nice job!

Man, this is timely information. I just put this same question to Ken yesterday about my 2920.

Thanks for posting......it looks like the lip is supporting the chains pretty good, no?

I would have preferred to have them inline with the cylinders and arms, but on the right side Kubota puts the level indicator for the bucket in that spot, so there was no room for the hook there. So I decided to move them slightly outboard. That part of the bucket is pretty stiff due to the sidewall, and not too far from the arms, so I think it's a fair compromise.
