Taken here yesterday. Might have got a foot of new snow and it was a high quality type.

A close friend had a place on Houghton lake a few years back. We went up every winter for to snowmobile and for the little winter festival they did on the ice. Did the Polar Bear dive once. Rode atvs around there a few times in the summer also. They sold that place and are now on Burt lake. Only rode there 2 times. Most of my time in Michigan is spent at my cabin in the UP.

I'm not sure where Houghton lake is. This thread is about Keweenaw Lake effect snow.

Now I'm with you. The profile showed Houghton. Even though Im in the UP yearly, I haven't made it that far West.

Arly, it’s like you go out in that stuff voluntarily.

When I was about the age of the kid in the one picture above I didn't mind the snow at all. Now that I'm closer to 80 than 8....I'm REALLY happy I'm living in the desert and don't have to spend hours moving that white stuff around!

I'm retired and that snow looks wonderful. Nice clean crisp air with calm winds and sun. Perfect. I have snowshoes but we are not getting any snow here. It hasn't been good for a few years and it looks like another brown x-mas. Enjoy!

Beautiful eye candy...very much enjoy seeing the "snow in the woods" scenes rather than the "snow on the road" pictures!

That might actually be at the core of the seeming dichotomy...

Hiking, skiing and snow shoeing out in nature by choice is still relaxing and enjoyable.

But the necessity of driving in those same conditions - not so much anymore...

We dive in snow for months on end. We only buy awd or 4wd vehicles and get another set of rims for snow tires. No big deal for us. Old pic of a hill near our house.
