killer chainsaw chain

Egon,
This works great for me in some cases and is an excellent idea that I forget about most of the time until it is too late and I already have a big hole and a lot of roots exposed.
Another thing I use in areas where it is difficult to get the stump grinder into and areas that I do not need access to for a while is to bury the stumps with a mixture of dirt and manure with a little moisture added on occasion. It takes a couple of seasons but most of the time works quite well.

Carbide chain is not new. A lot of fire depts use it on the entry saw, only thing is you have to have a diamond file to sharpen it. I use one on my MS440 mag when cutting dirty logs.

Thank you for the website. I ordered several for all my chainsaws. We'll see just how good they are.

Cool Chain!

This may sound boring, timeconsuming, and dull, but fire is almost free! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Yup, fire is almost free but when you live in a township that only issues fire permits when there is at least one foot of snow on the ground and will not let us burn stumps for any reason, the free part doesn't work to well here. They have their reasons, the Red Pine needle that covers the ground in many of the areas around me is like gasoline. If you burn with out a permit and the fire gets out of control you end up paying for all of the expense. The free part doesn't work to well in this case either.

Jim,

I didn't see any pricing on their site and just a couple estimates in this thread.

Can you tell us what kind/size chains you bought and more accurate pricing?

Thanks
Brian

Farwell,
Sorry, I can't help you with the local beaureacrats. Some people do tend to let their fires get out of hand though, so I can see their point.
We've had a county-wide burn ban for several years here, but you can usually smell something burning once in a while.

Hobbyfarm,
I too get that wood burning smell once in a while and it is frequently during hot spells so it isn't someone keeping warm with their fire place. Something that they will let us do is burn a campfire in a fire pit surrounded by a 3' to 4 ' piece of culvert material that is at least 18" high. We can usually do the fire pit unless there is a burn ban in place. I have a fire pit that is about 5 feet deep by 20 feet long by about 6 feet wide filled with about 6 trees including all the branches along with a bunch of brush. The pile is about 8 feet above grade now but it was around 10 feet and it has settled over the past few months. I put lots of brush on the bottom of the pit, put the logs on top of that and with a lot of pressure from my front end loader I compressed the pile so I could stack the branches on top. In another couple of weeks I will put a tarp over the pile and wait for that foot of snow. The low humidity of Michigan Winters really dries out any of the green wood and with the brush on the bottom giving plenty of air space the pile goes real hot and quick. This is a annual thing on my place.

I ordered two chains to fit my 21 inch Poulan and two to fit my 20 inch Husky. I will let you know when I get them, I think the gentleman was correct on over a $1 per link but they cut me some slack since I ordered four chains.
