I wish that I had known about compact telehandlers sooner!

I researched tractors to death for about a year for my defined needs, I think I made the right decision! I will have 85h on mine since August 1st 2020. I got a larger compact with a cab and 48.3Hp
I also spent nearly a year researching and thinking about what I needed/wanted. My choice had a lot to do with the dealer that I wanted to do business with but if I found that nothing they carried would fit my needs I would have gone elsewhere. When making purchases of this magnitude I always need to be confident in my decision because I know I'll have to live with it for a very long time, in this case, probably the rest of my life, or at least until it comes time to sell my house because I am no longer able to maintain it and move into a place that will not require me to own a tractor.

My first was a L3400. Did everything I needed it to on my 5 acres of woods. Then I started a field mowing (AKA bushhogging) business. Jobs started getting bigger....like doing a 3-4 jobs over 15 acres a year to go along with all the smaller 3-5 acre jobs. The 3400 was a gear tractor also. So wanted something bigger and HST.

The MX5100 I got is pretty much as big as it gets and still HST. Sure they are pushing north of 60HP now and still HST....but still pretty much the same size machine. And its also way more efficient at back-filling trenches for utilities or drainage tile than the 3400.

What would be ideal is for someone to make a HST machine in the next larger frame. Like a deere 5-series or kubota small M series. Something around 70-ish HP. I really like the looks of the bota M5660.....like them tall front tires.....but HST option stops at the MX.

So not really a definitive answer to the question. Are there things I wish that were different about my tractor....sure. But if I were to design a tractor from the ground up.....no one makes exactly what I have in mind as my "ideal" tractor. So if I had to do it over again.....yep I would make the same choice.

Would have purchased the same tractor today as I did in 2003. I think I may have sprung for the backhoe attachment, but other than that I can't complain about the service I've gotten out of it. Hopeful to get another 18 or more years out of it.

If I could go back I would definitely have my current tractor but I would have kept my Mahindra 2615 also. It would not be used much but having a smaller lighter tractor at times would be nice.

I started with a Kubota BX and now own a JD 2025r. I wouldn’t have known the JD was the perfect sized tractor for me without owning the BX first.

Having a second tractor is VERY handy!

Back in 1999 I bought my first tractor, a 1957 Massey Ferguson F40, and I was thrilled with it (and still use it). A few years ago, I couldn't take the winters anymore in the snow capital of Ohio, so I bought a Kubota M7040 HDC-1 with cab, heat, a/c, FEL, etc. and I am still thrilled with it!

When making purchases of this magnitude I always need to be confident in my decision because I know I'll have to live with it for a very long time...
That's where I'm at now with my latest purchase, a new Kubota KX057-5 mini excavator that I signed the papers for on Saturday. I am confident in my selection, but I'd be lying if I said the purchase price isn't causing me to lose some sleep!
When I get it home, I am sure I'll once again be thrilled with my purchase, but there's plenty of room for self-doubt right now. My dealer is backed-up with work at the moment, and won't be able to deliver for 2.5 weeks.

My first K was a well used L4630 and I was happy as a clam with it but when I was ready for a replacement rig I went looking for slightly larger L's, 5240, 5740 etc.
I happened upon the used M6040 I now own and was at first a bit intimidated by the size difference from the L but now would never go back to a smaller tractor as the M series are so much more machine.
I would definitely buy one again if I ever needed too.
My L had R4 tires on it, which is all I had ever used; the M came with much bigger R1's and I must say I would never go back to R4's after that. For the conditions I operate in they are the right choice.
