I have an opportunity to purchase a used 4560 backhoe this weekend. I would be installing it on my L4310.
Does anyone have any suggestions, problems or issues installing the backhoe? Anyone want to throw out a ballpark price for a unit that is in apparently good shape?

Don,

I just had a 4560 put on a L3710. I paid about $4000 for it. Not sure that was a great price, but it seems OK. If the L4310 is the same as the L3710, and I think it is, you will need to add a subframe and change the existing ROPS. This will set you back about another $1000 And if you have a FEL that is not a Kubota, you **may** need to modify the Subframe to fit. That was the case with a Koyker 210, I am not sure if a Woods or another make would have the same problem.

I can't tell you how it works because it has yet to arrive! I have talked to a few others that have used the 4560 before and they tell me it is one strong BH. We will find out.

Hope this helps,

Gary

Gary,
Thanks for the input. I do have a Kubota FEL, and the 3710 and 4310 do have the same chassis. I was not aware of the subframe though. Was not too fond about hearing about having to change the ROPS though. Oh well, we'll see how it works out.

Thanks............Don

I bought a new 4560 for my L4610 a year ago and it has been a workhorse for us clearing stumps from our property. Gary is right about the subframe and the ROPS.

It sounds like a great deal you have going there... quite a bit less than a new one. Since someone paid a lot more for that unit when it was new, I'd be a bit curious why it's now for sale - without the tractor someone added a subframe to and changed the ROPS - and what condition it's in. I would have thought it made more sense to sell the tractor + BH as a package unless one or the other had a problem.

The 4560 has been around for several years now, so it's possible you're looking at one that has some age and some hours on it.

It's a heavy unit. Do you have R1's or R4's on your 4310? The R4's are wider and have less sidewall give, maybe helps with stability a little.

It's also tall... you need a 10ft door to bring it inside without dropping the dipperstick some.

grandad,

I'm looking at a 4610 which will be used mainly for mowing pasture and FEL work, but a backhoe would come in handy on occasion too. Is the subframe mounted backhoe fairly easy to take on and off or is it a more permanent arrangement?

jsec,

I am not an expert on BH, but from what I have seen, there are some Subframe mounts that are real easy to work with and some look like a major effort to remove / install. The L4560 is what Kubota calls "Quick Attach" BH. It still requires a subframe installed, but it can be removed or installed in well under 5 minutes. And another 5 minutes to reattach the 3 point hitch lift arms and PTO cover.

Your application is pretty much the same as mine. I have no complaints and feels the package is pretty hard to beat.

Gary is right... this BH is a very easy on and off. Maybe 5 minutes is a tad quick, but I usually fuss around lubing (31 grease zerks!) and cleaning it since it's stored indoors when not used, so the actual on and off is the least part of it.

It fits in a nice, close tuck into the rear of the tractor for maximum strength and the best balance. Although it doesn't have the single swivel seat convenience of a dedicated TLB like the L48, it's pretty close... you can simply flip up the tractor seat and step over to the backhoe workstation without having to dismount the tractor.

The close fit also allows you to raise the FEL and pads so you can creep the tractor without leaving the BH seat. That saves a lot of climbing on and off if you are ditching, for example.

There are some fine aftermarket BH's out there, but I'm pretty satisfied with this choice for me.

Is this similar to the L4540 backhoe? I have this model for my L4150, and it is a great unit. The L4540 is made by Bradco for Kubota.

km,

I could not find any info on the L4540, but here are the specs of the 4560:

Don't know all the history of the 45-something backhoes, maybe someone else has better information. Kubota did not make its own backhoes until fairly recently and I've heard from several other sources that the earlier ones were from Bradco.
