Backhoe Kubota BX2360 and Woods Subframe Question

Where in MA are you located. Just curious as which dealers you called

/ Kubota BX2360 and Woods Subframe Question #12
Chris, I called Rosseel's and they quoted the subframe at 925.00! Does that sound right? I'm not sure what it includes, but I will ask them when they call back with the shipping costs. I will be putting this together myself, maybe a buddy or 2 and pizza/beer, but I will probably have plenty of on lookers (beer suckers :licking:) too. I'll have them take pictures as I go along.

Did you ever need to look into the ROPS bar height? I am 6 feet tall and might have a problem with this. Maybe I can get a folding BX25 replacement bar depending on the cost. Come to think of it I don't even know if it be replaced.

Kevin, forget the email method...the phone is way better!

Now, which hat do I wear...Kubota or Woods?

Bacfin, I don't have the detail quote anymore, but the sub-frame cost was $800 and something - $850, $875 - don't recall the exact number, so it looks like it went up a little. The sub-frame includes the proper hydraulic connections and hoses since that will differ, like the sub-frame, for each tractor model.

Can't say on the ROPS height, but I'm 5'7" and based on what others stated in older threads about fitting under the ROPS, I didn't think it was going to be an issue.

Depending on where you are in MA, I did get a reasonable quote from Woodbury Tractor in Woodbury CT. I think he came in around $6,400 with the pin on thumb, which was important to me. All other local dealers were well over $7K. Some wouldn't even give me a firm price and tried to steer me towards a new tractor with hoe. Got the impression they never really ordered Woods equipment.

Hi Tom,

I was quoted 3750 for the backhoe and 925 for the subframe. My take is they use the same hoe with many different subframes and that was the reason for the two prices. All the prices in this area are high. My local dealer wants 7000 for both the backhoe and subframe uninstalled. I have 2 more dealers to call within an hour of me.

I think the seat conversion is part of the subframe kit and the hydraulics are part of backhoe kit, but I will double check. Good to know the ROPS should not be an issue.

Thanks,

You are right about them using the same bh with many subframes. I suppose they are parsing the price since you want to install it yourself. All the place that gave me quotes just gave the total without a breakdown.

before you purchase the woods BH, go back to your kubota dealer and ask about trade to a BX25. chances are you will save a wad of cash over a woods add on BH by the time all is said and done.

It used to be that adding the Woods to a 4 digit # BX was always cheaper than trading for a 2 digit # BX, because the tractor had taken too large of a depreciation hit. If you know you want a bh before you buy, then going with the 2 digit # BX was about $1500-$2000 cheaper.

Things may have changed, however, with what these guys are asking for the Woods. Radioman has a good suggestion. I really would see what you could get on a trade. I would also look into what you could get for the old tractor on Craigslist. A dealer will usually give you less on trade-in than you could get selling it yourself. If you have an MMM, you need to see if it is compatible with the BX25. If you do have an MMM and it won't fit the BX25, you'd take a loss on selling the old one and buying a new one on the BX25.

I would also keep shopping around for a better price on the Woods.

Don't forget sales tax in the equations when figuring what you'd pay. In CA, if you trade a $10,000 tractor for a $20,000 tractor, you still pay sales tax (about 9%) on the full $20,000. If you add a Woods bh, you pay sales tax only on the new bh (excluding installation labor). Look at the tax situation in your own state carefully. You might even consider buying in an adjacent state. Some CA residents buy in OR where there's no sales tax. If a CA resident buys in OR through Kubota credit, they notify the CA tax man, who then comes calling. If you pay an OR dealer cash, the CA tax man never knows about it.

Good luck in your investigation and making a choice.

Hi Radioman,

That was one of the first options I looked at, but I bought this tractor new a little over a year ago and with only 110 hours on it, the numbers just do not work for a trade in.

Chris,

I went to 2 Kubota dealers yesterday and both said I would not have a height issue with the ROPS bar, but after sitting in a 2660 and a 25 next to each other, I am not sold yet. I will just have to wait and see. I can buy the BX 25 ROPS separately for around 300.00.

Hi Tom,
I am deciding to go with the Woods. It just makes the most sense given the situation. My bad for not going with BX25 in the first place, but that is a different story.

I have 4 different quotes right now and even after shipping costs and a (25.00 preparation fee ), the dealer in Michigan is the cheapest by 1200.00. Even in tax free New Hampshire, everyone around here is 6500-7000 cash and carry. One dealer would install it for 250.00. The others were 400 to 500.

I don't have a MMM or have a need for it on this property, but there would be a problem mounting a bagger with the woods sub frame. Not an issue for me.

Bruce, good deal. I'm very interested in how you make out on the Woods hoe since I was in your shoes just a few months ago. Please let us know how the install goes (assuming you do it yourself??) and take some pic's.

For me, the Woods BH was going to run roughly $6K, while a trade in cost me about $10K. My BX1860 was two years old and I decided to trade it in and apply the money I was going to spend on the BH towards a BX25. I ended up with a relatively small payment on the BX25; less than what I had on my BX1860 though the term is longer, so that's part of the difference.

Good to know you can buy the BX25 ROPS. I like the folding ROPS since there are a few trees I could not get my BX1860 under for mowing, though I mow 90% of the time with my old Wheel Horse garden tractor. I just have to remember to fold it down when entering the garage or parking it in my shed.

Here are some pics of a couple of last year's projects. After the disastrous storm of December 2008, I took down about 100 pine trees that surrounded the house. Also, I extended the driveway to add 3 car parking next to the garage and added a drywell.
