Kubota L4740 Engine "knock" Help?

Never mind, I found the serial number. It's stamped in the block at the top of the injection pump housing.

Got the bearing yesterday. Fits like new. I'm going to call Loctite and see which compound they recommend and put that on for good measure.

Next up is order the rest of the parts needed, then will clean the block, check/test all the oil passages, and press the bearings in.

Thanks for the tip on countrysales. Will check out their rebuild kits.

Can anyone tell me where to find the serial number on this engine? Some of the gaskets have a serial number break. I can't find it though.

Don't forget primer if the compound calls for it. It can increase holding power quite a bit.

Also make sure the surfaces are really clean. I follow up regular cleaning (carb or brake cleaner) with acetone to pick up any residue.

I would also be sure the bore is deburred before the bearing is pressed in. A sharp corner would be able to scrape or shear some of the exterior of the bearing. Just using some emery cloth on the corner makes a big difference. (it doesn't take much)

Was waiting on parts last week, then had to go out of town this week. I guess some of the parts aren't common and had to come from Kubota direct.

Evidently the crankshaft gear is made out of some rare earth metal and they only manufacture one if a customer orders it. It was back-ordered, but they're saying I should have it next week. Hope so, as I'll be needing to remove snow pretty quick here. So hopefully some re-assembly pics and progress next week.

At least they did not make it out of unobtainium and you can get it :thumbsup:
