3/4 ton would be pushing it on tongue weight.

I swear, I can't understand why 3/4 tons are even made anymore. They should just build 1/2 ton, 1 ton SRW and 1 ton DRW.

I think the main reason is for when registering a pickup. At least some states charge additional fees based on the GVWR of the truck. A 3/4 ton's registration fee is slightly less than a 1 ton.

I have a 3/4 ton, as that's what was available in the configuration I wanted when I was searching for a slightly used truck years back, but I later found out that I have the exact same axles and spring packs on my 3/4 ton as the 1 ton SRW had in that model year. It was something Ford did for a while (not sure about now) in the interest of cutting costs - instead of stocking 2 different sets of springs, axles, etc, they put the same components on both vehicles. The ONLY difference between the F250 & F350 SRW driveline & suspension was the F250 had 2" rear spring blocks, and the F350 had 4" rear spring blocks. My truck even has the longer U-bolts that will fit the 4" blocks.

So, aside from the blocks, I have a 1 ton suspension with the 3/4 ton sticker on the door, and slightly lower annual registration fees.

I tow my L48s with loaded tires, thumb, and other stuff putting it at about 9,800lbs. +/-.......and then add a 6' mower, blade, rake and other stuff in the dump bed with a GMC 3500 Duramax. You know the trailer is there for sure. My KX121 with buckets is about the same weight. I know a guy who tried to tow a KX161 (11,600lbs.) with a F350 pickup, and the trailer pushed and jackknifed him real bad. F'd up his truck up something bad. I am assuming they are loading M59 tires, even though the L48 manual says not to, putting the M59 at 10,600lbs.+ with thumb and other add on weight.

Wow, what a joke.

My Ford 1-ton trucks actually had an additional helper spring on top of the spring pack that makes a difference once the load gets heavy.

Really?! An additional helper spring?! So does mine. My F250 suspension is exactly the same as a buddy's F350 suspension with the exception of the blocks, which he has since changed out to the 2" so his truck rode more level. Same number of springs in the spring pack, same size, and same exact helper spring.

I wonder what the relative price difference if between this monster and a Case 580K?

I really do not know that much about it but this Kubota looks like it may be a contender in that space?

A M59 isn't in the same league. here's a Case 580SuperK:

The M59 is equivalent to a 2004-2005 Case 580SM backhoe. K's are around 20K with the L's reaching above 20K to about 40K.

You mean price, I was talking about the capability of the machine, not price. :)
