The M9540 we have now is made in Japan. Most parts (other than those made by Kubota are "Denso" brand - made in Japan) are also. I have never seen any that are from countries I mentioned before. To each his own.

That's why I said "almost all", not "all".

I do like the fact that Kubota keeps so much production in house while many other brands are just bolted together outsourced pieces from other companies painted the same color.

I really like Kubota's corporate philosophy.

To add to the question at hand,

I have an L5030 HSTC, I have owned it 3 years, it was a used 2003 model. It has been extremely reliable, easy to use etc.

So far I have cut, ted, raked, and baled and hauled between 1500 to 4500 small square bales a summer. Last year it was about 1500 plus almost 200 4x4 round bales. I pull a NH 489 mower conditioner, a JD 336 square baler and I can't recall the rounders number. The mower conditioner is a 9 ft model and it is the only thing that I could use some more power for. Mowing wet hay up steep hill slows me down to about 3 mph instead of the 5-7 mph I can handle on the flat if the mower is tuned up well.

Other than that I move a pile of dirt, use forks to load my sawmill, use my 3 point hitch logging winch, use my 7 ft Lucknow blower to blow out about 6 clients, one with a 3/4 mile driveway. We get about 150 -200 inches of snow a year.

It is big enough to do all this just fine, and is fantastically manouverable. I am looking to move to an M series so I can pull a wagon behind my square baler, but we'll have to see what the tax man says this year.

It definitely sounds like either of the CUT's should do everything I need it to do. I will be test driving both of them this weekend and will have to decide which I like best since the price differential between the 5740 and the 4720 is $50. About the only difference with price is that JD has 0% for 36 months and Kubota has 0% for 24 months.

Sorry cannot compare, however, i really love my cab on the jd. Can take cell phone calls while on the tractor and running (but who really wants to!!), so it helps with the noise considerably. Not knowing where you are at may help with that decision. Heat is nice in the winter and i am sure a/c will be nice in the summer. For moving stuff around, the HST just cannot be beat. Have not been in a situation yet where there was not enough power.

I'm from Ohio and although the weather can have some extremes, there aren't too many days around here that I'm out on the tractor and wishing I had heat or air. I just want to find a tractor that is reliable, easy to use, starts easily in the winter, and is able to handle the work that I need done.

That's a big drawback for me! Best excuse is "couldn't hear the phone ring".

Does anyone know what a good price is on a L5740? I've called around to a couple of dealers today and got a quote as low as $25,300 (with industrial tires and a 2008 model even) and as high as $27,000 and the third was in the middle at $25,800. The nice part is is that the lowest quote is also the closest to me. Are the industrial tires much better or worse to have than the stock tires? Are there any differences between the 2007 and 2008 model year?

Had a 5400 and a 5210. Had some real bad cold weather starting issues with both of them, dealer told me it was normal for them to spit and sputter and blow white smoke for 3 minutes when starting them in 20 degree weather, hmmm, my Kubota's don't have that problem.

I have a JD5400 "95" model. Its starts in sub zero degree weather just as easy as a summer day. Never ever has hesitated to start. In fact I was just telling a friend the other day how this diesel starts easier than a gas engine even if it is below zero. You must have had something wrong!
