Re: L-series what size=L4310hst

gordon, I'm sure you are gonna love that new machine & I look foward to hearing how well it works for you. How long of a wait will you have before you get it ? Are you going with the pre dented model ? I put a dent in mine within the first hour!! ( puting 24' of equipment on a 16' trailer ) but at least I got it out of the way early and my wife was sure glad I did it and not her.

Re: L-series what size - Canopy

I see from one of your later posts that you have decided on a L4310. That tractor is probably big & heavy enough that the canopy weight won't be a serious problem. However, if you custom build a really heavy duty model canopy there could be a problem.

Re: L-series what size=L4310hst

Thanks I can either get it delivered tomorrow or at the end of the week without the t&t installed. It's fair week next week a pretty big event for the State in summer. So they will busy down there.

I got the one with the dent in the hood but he's going to send it to the bodyshop to get rid of most or all of it. But once I get it I'm going to get some scraches and dents but I'm not worried about that it comes with the territory.

I bet your wife was glad that you put the first dent in it./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif Bet it will take a very long time for her to forget that one.

Yes I'm happy that my head has finally stopped spinning. My dealer ran right with the best internet prices that I showed him. I should say he was a touch higher but the freight from an out of state dealer whould have them neck and neck.

Re: L-series what size - Canopy

My understanding of why the Kubota brand canopy does not sell as well is because (1) the fiberglass is not as durable as the heavier model (upon running into something, it'll break/crack instead of bend), and (2) the shiny tread-plate style reflects the sun's energy better than the painted Kubota canopy (translated...it's supposed to be cooler under the canopy).

I just know that I comfortably went up and down one hill of mine a few times before I bought the canopy. After installing the canopy, the tractor did not feel nearly as stable.

I am pretty sure that I remember the Kubota brand canopy being lighter weight than the tread-plate canopy, but don't remember any specs. I would say that the lighter weight canopy would subject Kubota (and John Deere) to fewer lawsuits resulting from turn-over accidents.

Bird, your B2710 (and the B2910) are both lighter than the smaller HP B2150 (according to sales brochures) that I have. Accordingly, you could be subjected to the same stability problems. For what it's worth, I don't believe that my tires have any fluid.

One tidbit worth noting (and maybe not…) is that the older B-series booklet-style brochures showed at least one Kubota with an orange Kubota canopy installed. I have not seen a current B-series brochure where there is a picture of a canopy installed on the tractors.

Having said all of that, I'll still keep the canopy on for sun protection since I now belong to the "Cancer Survivor" group and would like to keep it that way.

Re: L-series what size - Canopy

I'm going with wheel weights at first I plan to switch to radials and I believe its better for the footprint of the tire to have weights and not the tires loaded. I will keep in mind the overhead weight when I design the cover. Thanks

Re: L-series what size - Canopy

Gordon, I like the wheel weights, but they were $900 for just the wheel inserts on my tractor. However; I could not see any difference in the tires loaded or unloaded looking at one tractor that was 1500# heavier (mine) than the one setting beside it. Having never seen or used a tractor that did not have the tires filled, I just kinda thought it was suppossed to be that way. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Re: L-series what size - Canopy

Wen I knew if I didn't buy the weights right off the bat I never would. I'm going to switch to radials and they say that you will get a better footprint with a radial tire with weights. It allows the tire to flex the way it was designed more so than when the tires are loaded. For bias ply I would load the tires just like I have on my present tractor. I also don't want to deal with the hassle of loading and unloading and loading again of the new tires. But I will test the tractor and see how stable it is with the weights and a full bucket with nothing on the back---that will tell the real story!!!!

Re: L-series what size - Canopy

Gordon, don't be surprised if is not enough. I have 1500# in all 4 tires and still use a 1000# boxblade on the 3 point. The back tires will definately stay on the ground without the box blade, but the point is that you want a good portion of the bucket load counterbalanced by the box blade. I read about people with the rear tires coming off the ground. For me that would translate to having approximately 10,000 pounds on the front two tires. Not a real good idea.

Re: L-series what size - Canopy

It won't surprize me but you know I will have to do the test just to see how it will handle it. Wen you are right for any heavy loader work I put the box on the back makes alot more stable and safe. The last thing I need is a tippy tractor!!!
You have your front tires loaded too? Does it affect the steering at all or can you even tell a difference?
