L3540 questions

Can I run a 3pt wood chipper 6" without worry for lack of PTO HP..Or does it have sufficient amount to do the job?

Also for use of operating in a lot of timber /field mix doing work on wildlife food plots, and managing stands of hardwoods/brush clean up & occasional snow removal; will the standard ag tires do the job, or do I need to go with R4 industrials?

The R4's will take more punishment than the R1's, and the thicker fronts will stand up to heavier FEL loads. If you will be in the woods with stumps, rocks, branches, etc., the industrials might be a better choice, but the tradeoff is less traction.

As moored4 suggested, check the chipper manufacturers input requirements againt the tractor output capability. You should be fine, here is my 1950 28hp Ford 8N running a 5" chipper. Philip.

NO idea?..That's why I came here to ask. I wanted to be sure the tractor can handle at least a 6" 3pt chipper? So I was hoping a few 3540/kubota guys might have a few specific recommendations on models/brands.
As far as the tires, I guess I could always take care of any traction issues with chains? The FEL issue is more important to me.

Go to chipper website (example, Bearcat), look up model you want, and get input hp requirements. Go to Kubota website, look up tractor model you want, and get pto hp output. Is the tractor hp greater than the chipper hp? You need to do this yourself, what if someone gives you bad information??? Philip.

Personally, I do not like R4's, I think they are a compromise, meant for construction sites. Many will argue that statement with me. If you are in heavy mud most of the time, go for the R1's. Philip.

The 3540hst has 28pto hp i believe. Phillips got it right but ill take a stab and say it may be a bit underpowered.

My 8N has 28hp flywheel, but only 22hp pto, and I run a 5" chipper with no problem. Personally, I think he will be okay, but he needs to dig into the numbers for himself to be sure and comforable with his discision. Philip.
