This forum is great-it has been very helpful!! I have been searching and studying this site for a couple of months and have been thoroughly impressed by the display of knowledge and respect on the various forums. Now to the Point! I have no experience with tractors, I have never driven one(except for a short test drive of a 3010 and 3710), and I am going to buy one in the next month. The various tasks I will be performing, or attempting to perform, will be:
*Using FEL to clear 1-4" pine, spruce, fir, and tamerack in sandy soil with an occasional 8" spruce(maybe 10 large spruce trees total)
*Removing snow off a small driveway in a 150" snowzone w/FEL-possibly purchase blower in future but would rather have FEL, and if my ATV w/plow can clear-so can FEL!
*Till/Disk light soil and pasture for food plots-5 acres current-10 acres at most in future.
*Level cleared land with boxscraper and rippers-am considering hydraulic top link.
*Remove an occasional 20 year old pine stump in the 12-16" range.
*Use a broadcaster to spread Lime in the 4 tons per acre range.
*Maintain existing logging roads on our 130 acres.
*Any other excuse to play on my new machine!
Other than curtis hard cab w/heater,60-70" tiller, 500-600#Boxblade,Broadcaster, and FEL, I have narrowed my long search down to the L4310, with the possibility of going with L4610 or L3710-maybe JD4600??-all w/Hydro and 4X4. What do you guys think?? Sorry this is so long-I tried to be thorough.
Thanks!

Jeff,
By the sounds you got some projects line up this year.
I would think the L3710 would fit your needs, but the extra 10hp on the L4610 could come in handy at times w/those extra attachments.
When you mention snowblower were you saying front or rear, for the L3710 has both not sure about L4610 has a front mount.
Would a backhoe & bush hog be in your future plans also.
Have you consider of hiring mid size dozer to rough out the heavier work..stumping,clearing than do the finish work w/your new Kubota.

If you get a chance try out a L4610 than compare both models.

Good luck and keep us posted.

JeffInDaUP, sounds like you've pretty well done your homework. I wonder why the Curtis hard cab instead of a Kubota factory cab (don't know what the cost difference is, but think the factory cab would be nicer and would have better resale value at some point in the future). And, yes, get the hydraulic top link (and maybe even one side link). And I think a toothbar for the FEL would be worth the money, too.

Jeff, my advice is to always go as big as you can afford. The 3710 is a great tractor, my brother has one. The 4310 and 4610 are even better. Don't think you ever sit on your tractor and think...gosh, wish I had less horse power.

I have 34 acres. Over the next couple of years we will be buying some neighboring land. We should end up with about 100 acres. I went with the M5400 because it was the most hp for the money.

You are absolutley right in getting hydro and 4x4. Not a day goes by that I don't wish for a hydro.

Deer and New Holland make excellent tractors, look at both.

Good luck.

PS On spreading lime, I don't spread my own lime or chicken manure, I hire the job out. They come out in big dump trucks with spreaders on back. Do a heck of a job fast.

Jeff, one huge feature a 3710 has in its favor over the 4310 and the 4610 is a mid pto. With that you can have front mount pto attachments and you can have a mid-mount mower. That could be a compelling reason for the 3710. The 4310 would be my least likely tractor of the 3 to purchase since the only advantage it has over the 3710 is a little more HP but the same loader. The 4610 has not only more HP but a greater lift capacity/ bucket width which is enough for me to go with it over the 3710 and its greater hydraulic pump capacity will run light hydraulic powered attachments on the front end. The super smooth HST on those tractors is my main reason for going with Kubota over Deere and New Holland, Rat...

Thanks alot for the comments! Bird, the toothbar will be a certain addition. Kubota cab is in the $1500.00 difference range-could afford with the 3710-makes a tougher decision though! Air is not a major consideration because of average summer highs in the 70's-also like the removable hard doors on the Curtis. I live in a non-agricultural area-nearest lime spreader(100 miles+) will not come this far-have been spreading with shovel so far. It is also hard to line up contractors in a timely fashion due to the short building season. I don't mind if it takes some time to complete my projects-just don't want to damage the tractor and not sure if possible to complete with equipment considering. Backhoe is not in immediate plans due to cost-maybe a bushhog though. Also called closest New Holland dealer(150 miles away)-he said he owned a Kubota himself and tried to sell me a Kubota instead. The closest Kubota & JD Dealers have been great-JD is a little above my spouse-approved spending limit!-but because of being in a non-ag area they have little dirt experience, and I have none. You guys are great and I appreciate your comments!

I nearly went with the 3710, am glad I stepped up to the 4610. As an earlier posts mentioned the extra power and lift capacity make it a dream to operate.Only other thing I can add is I use a 7' Bush Hog rear blade in addition to the FEL for snow removal. Great results so far! Good Luck
