Kubota L3800 HST 4x4
I've hit the 50 hour mark and need to decide whether or not to perform the service myself, or bring the tractor to the dealer. Anyone know about how much the 'service' runs? If you've done it yourself, how much cash for supplies?
I'm looking to do what the manual recommends for the first 50 hour service only.

Thanks

There is a great 3 part video on YouTube that shows this very service on an L3400. Just search under Kubota L3400 50 service. Lots to see and learn.

Great videos. Thanks.

I plan to stick with the manual and not change hydro fluid, just filters. I spent 148 bucks on Kubota parts. The 'service' at the dealer is $525 bucks! That includes hydro change which the dealer recommends.

Engine oil and filter and hydro filter. Nothing to it. :)

That sounds about right costwise in both instances.

I had mine done last month at the dealer. He replaced all fluids including the hydro, filters and greased everything. Parts ran $180.86 plus tax (14.91). The hydro fluid added $47.25 to my parts cost, so my dealer charged me about $15 less than your parts cost overall.

He did not charge labor for the 50 hour service since that is his hook to win the service and maintenance business from new customers. The invoice states the labor savings was $160, so my total bill without the labor promotion would have run $440.86 plus tax on parts. Your dealer service is within $50 buck of mine, so that sounds to be a fairly reasonable variance to me. An advantage of dealer service to me was the front axle inspection and the chance to catch any issues under warranty that I might not be able to notice due to my novice knowledge and awareness status.

You're saying the hydraulic fluid was only 47.25? What did they use? 27 litres of UDT Premium is over $100 here, at about $80 for a 5 gallon (19 litre) pail.

I did the 50 hour on my L3800, there is a thread I wrote to cover the steps if you do a search. Quite easy to do yourself and not much of a mess. I went w/ the manual and did not change hydro fluid yet, just the filter. My advice, save some money and get to know your tractor a little bit better by doing it yourself.

I just finished the 150 hour maintenance, ease. The biggest problem that I had with the 50 hour is that I did not expect to loose so much HST fulid when I changed the filters. I had a little trouble putting on the new filter. I had to buy another gallon of HST fulid, that stuff is not cheep. I like to do my own maintenance, I think its fun. Plus like was said before, it's good to get to know your tractor.

The manual's pictures for greesing the front axle on the 4x4 model was a little hard to understand were the second greese fitting was. If I remeber right, there is one on the pivot point and one on the front drive shaft.
